i always have had countless compliments on abercrombie and fitch fierce
i hate wearing a cologne from abercrombie though
wondering if there is any other cologne with the same smell and notes ???

I don't know the company or the smell (I guess it is a cheap drug store frag from your post), but if you enjoy it a lot and others do too, why not continue?

Fierce is primarily a vetiver fragrance. Vetiver is a classic theme for a cologne and you can find it with all sorts of houses (Guerlain, Lorenzo Villoresi, Frederick Malle, etc etc).
Go to the directory and search on vetiver (once in the 'fragrance name' field, once in the 'fragrance notes' field) and you should have an abundance of candidates.

chanel platinum egoiste may work out... of course it is a bit sharper and smokier than fierce but they both kinda have the same feel. the chanel, of course, is of much higher quality. i doubt any of your friends will be wearing it. i wanna say that it's about $65 for a 3.4oz bottle.

Agreed. Platinum Egoiste smells like a more refined version of Fierce to me, and is certainly what you're looking for!
