New Carven Vétiver 2006 reformulation
Question:
I could have sworn I read on this site some discussion that Carven Vétiver was recently reformulated to bring it closer to the original vintage 1957 formulation, of which the first reformulation (which I believe took place in the mid 1970s) was but a poor imitation. I can't find any discussion of the new reformulation anywhere. Does anyone know of such a discussion here on Basenotes or anywhere else for that matter? I don't know how close the 2006 reformulation is too the original 1957 formulation never having sampled the original, and I don't know how different it is to the first mid 1970s reformulation. It's been about 25 years since I last tried that one. I received a bottle of the newly reformulated juice today, and it's really very good. If you like Frederic Malle's Edition de Parfums Vétiver Extraordinaire, you'll definitely like this one. It has that same beguiling vetiver note, and it's a pretty straight-up vetiver fragrance. Initial impressions suggest it wears close to the skin and will probably show medium longevity. According to the Carven's website (http://www.carven.fr/), it was made by Firmenich, and it continues the tradition of "airy, woody-grassy" vetiver men's scents begun by Carven with the introduction of the first ever men's vetiver fragrance in 1957. Here is the pyramid I put together from my tester bottle and from the website: Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Gautemalan Lemongrass Heart notes: Nutmeg, Lavender, Lily of the Valley Base notes: Violet, Cedarwood, Bourbon Vétiver, Javanese Vétiver, Styrax, Amber, Musk Here is an image of the new bottle and new packaging: carven vetiver 2006 reformulation bottle and box 001.jpg scentemental Answer: Sounds interesting enough to seek out. Scentemental, I think this might be the discussion that you read: /showthread.php?t=191765 This relaunch of Carven Vetiver sounds so interesting that I almost ordered it blind. I want to try it! -------------------------------------- Scentemental, I know that you like to occasionally change your avatar. I am curious to know who is that distinguished gentleman pictured in your avatar today, March 14, 2007? Answer: That's the one. Thank you my friend. Check you messages. I think I know most of the good places, and I don't see Carven around. Thanks all, Joe Answer: Originally Posted by Joe_Frances Where could I possibly buy this in New York? Thanks all, Joe Joe, I do not know where the Relaunched 2006 Carven Vetiver can be purchased in New York, but it is currently available at the online retailer Perfume Bay: http://www.perfumebay.com/3660318101003.html My experiences purchasing from Perfume Bay have all been very good. -------------------------------------- By the way, the Perfume Bay website seems to have erroneously swapped the prices of the Relaunched 2006 Carven Vetiver Tester and non-Tester bottles, which could be a good deal for anyone wanting to purchase this fragrance. I just noticed that Perfume Bay is also selling a Vetiver Dry by Carven for Men, which I have never heard of until this moment. Does anyone have any knowledge to share concerning Vetiver Dry by Carven for Men? I am asking, because I want some vetiver for summer. The only thing which stops me from buying VE - is the price - 100£ Answer: Originally Posted by DreamerII it's a silly question. but - which is better? VE or Carven's Vetiver. Here in the US, one could buy about 8 bottles of Carven Vétiver for the price of a bottle of Vétiver Extraordinaire. It not an exact copy of and definitely not as strong as Vétiver Extraordinaire, but for the price of bottle it would make an excellent summer fragrance and a cost effective one even if one had to reapply once or twice a day. scentemental Answer: I've found three different bottles so far, I'm going to guess which is which. 1957 formulation: http://www.cosmeticmall.com/product_...c t_id=137647 1970's formulation: http://www.shop.com/op/~Vetiver_Carv...212?sourceid=3 2007 new hottness: http://www.ubid.com/actn/opn/getpage...&uwb=uwbc10397 Am I right? - Rich Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
