Scents you were astonished to like?
Question:
The compliments thread in the guys' forum reminded me of one of the most surprising ones for me: Etro Magot.
It didn't sound good to me at all (peach and tuberose ) but since I had decided to try all the Etros I hadn't tried yet, I spritzed some on my arm, and when I later asked hub's opinion, Magot was his favourite of the bunch I had tried on that day.
I wasn't so sure about it but bought it anyway because he liked it so much. When I wore it to the office for the first time, a workmate immediately came to ask what was that lovely scent I was wearing. In the end I learned to like it as well!

Answer:
I generally don't do too well with sweet gourmands, Angel is a death angel on me! So I was very surprised to find that Lolita Lempicka and HM's Butterfly both worked very well on me. I think, they have certain dark edges, and no patchouli blast, that tempers the sweetness. And I'm a licorice nut, which explains L.. The Japanese gourmands tend to have a little bitter woodiness in them which adds balance, I think. Anyway, always nice to have a pleasant surprise, and great bottles, too!

Answer:
Just about all the Etros I have but particularly Patchouly and Messe de Minuit. Others that come to mind: Agent Provocateur, Chanel No 5 (in parfum,) Montale Aoud Rose Petals, Amarige, PdN Vanilla Tonka and, in the beginning, Shalimar.

Answer:
The ONLY fragrance that I ever tried and was "astonished" that I ended up liking it was Kenzo Jungle Elephant. When the saleslady first put it on my wrist, I couldn't imagine why anyone would possibly wear it, but then after it dried down a little, it was fabulous. It's one of my favorites. I do find that they're are some fragrances, that either they smell great right away & then turn ugly, or vice versa. I usually don't buy something unless it smells good from beginning to end.

Answer:
Fleurs d'Oranger.
At first I found it shrill and deranged, to be honest.
Fast forward a few months, I tried it again and... I'm on my 3rd bottle.
I still have no idea how that happened.

Answer:
Burberry Brit Red. I have never been particularly fond of any of the Burberry frags. but for some reason I tried red on a whim and kept being drawn back to it. I now own a full bottle and I do love it, though I still have no intrest in any of the other Burberrys.

Answer:
From somewhere had materialized a sample of Tubereuse Criminelle...no one had warned me about the auto body shop smell that opens it up and I thought I'd been played a cruel joke. Whats with the gasoline and rubber?
And of course it blossoms into the lushest rose that lingers and lingers....

Answer:
Habanita is really cigarette butt-like at the start and I couldn't see
what all the fuss was about, until a good 15 minutes later when it morphs
into a sublime, cosy, womanly smell which has me hooked.

Answer:
Pink Sugar...I even find the name annoying. I expected to hate it and have a good laugh and aquolina's expense.
I also expected to dislike SJP Lovely. I'd read it was bland and unsmellabe, and the first few times I tried it, it vanished in a second. I can smelll it just fine now and I like the sheer sheerness of it and it's sillage.

Answer:
i have stayed away from celebrity scents for as long as possible, but when at the mall with a guy friend looking at perfumes, he persuaded me to smell britney spears' new fragrance 'curious in control' because he'd heard it was nice. at first i refused, but after smelling everything else in the women's frag dept, i figured a sniff couldn't hurt. boy was i amazed. i smelled her other stuff and loved everything but the original curious. then i moved on to jlo's stuff and really like live and live luxe. by then i was just curious to sniff everything i had refused to smell in the past, so i smelled paris hilton's scents and really like heiress. i didn't like the SJP lovely that much or the hillary duff scent. i am thinking about getting some britney spears stuff off ebay, though...there's no way i'd spend the retail amount on something with her name on it.
i'm truly embarrassed to like these frags. nobody judge me...please!!
