Guerlain Vetiver; Decent Deal? - Page 2
Question:
As a new BNer, I'll say GV is one of my huge favorites. I agree that the sharp coolness of it reminds one of menthol.. although it doesn't smell like menthol. Feels very cooling to the nose, that's for sure. Funny -- maybe vetiver grass doesn't hit me hard, but I'd be surprised to find anyone offended or put off by GV. It smells like all the best parts of a real, authentic, barber shop. Clean, cool, and neat. It's one of my favorites for the office. I only started with a 2.5 oz EDT but will certainly get a 4.2 when that gets low -- which at this rate won't be long. Answer: Just to offer the other side of the coin I am one of those who absolutely DETEST this scent. The only thing it reminded me of was a dirty ashtray...definitely not cool or clean. In fact when I wore it and drove to pick up my son, he got in the car and asked why it smelled like cigarette smoke...I have NEVER smoked. I luckily unloaded mine and remind purchasers to test this one before buying. Answer: $20 for a 4.2 Oz bottle of a Vetiver classic....what more can one ask for ? I mean $20 is great value even for a 4.2 oz bottle of a half decent scent .. How's THAT for focus?) so I did have some reservations with the comments of 'cigarette smoke' or 'ashtray'. General sense would indicate that if it were there, I'd be sniffing it out. Some frags just don't seem to follow general sense, I guess. Olfactory chemoreceptors are funny critters. Either on my skin or in my nose, there is none of this. I can barely even make out a tobacco note, period. The top citrus is prominent to me, and the vetiver LEAPS out quickly and hangs around. Never do get any 'smoky' accords. After a full day wear, I really like the way it keeps popping back up. I'll catch a sudden strong whiff of green, go to sniff my wrist and nothing. Five minutes later, POOF, back again. Not what I'd call a 'linear' scent, by far. The scent also reminds me with some vivid visual nostalgia of my Dad's shaving soap from the mid-70's. I doubt hindsmell is perfect recall, but it's close enough that I'd be surprised if he didn't have SOME sort of vetivery product at the time. Based on my experience, the tobacco is more prominent in warm weather and when more than 4 - 5 sprays are used. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
