Similar to Cacharel Pour L'Homme?
Question:
I am finally coming to accept that there is not much left in the world of Cacharel pour L'Homme. This was my signature fragrance for years, but it is becoming harder and harder to get a hold of.
Is there anything comparable? Not so much in notes as in uniqueness and sophistication? Any suggestions as an alternative or complimentary fragrance?
Thanks.

Answer:
I dont know if its just my nose but i feel that GUERLAIN VETIVER has a similar smell..

Answer:
This is a great one, isn't it. Nothing compares, but you might try:
L'Eau du Gouverneur by Comptoir Sud Pacifique. Similar to an extent, but, I believe, less refined, though it's quite good. More spice, also a good dose of nutmeg, less smooth and as always with CSP a synthetic undercurrent.
Incensi by Villoresi. another very smooth, elegant fragrance with x-mas/potpourri inclinations. Beautiful spice, cinnamon. Another 5 star in my book, worth a try for sure.
Scilla e Charridi, Gianni Campagna. I just got this myself (check for a recent post for a detailed description). This is Cacharel with clove replacing the nutmeg. Very smooth and sophisticated, rare, and it has that spicy-christmassy feel. Should be difficult to find, though it's only just been released last year.
R by Capucci. The ultimate in suave sophistication. Check my review. A clean chypre, no heavy spice here, more floral in the middle than Cacharel, but it is a perfect fragrance.
Noir Epices, Frederic Malle. I have not tried this one myself, but it would seem to go into the same direction, only in a more hardcore way.
I'm just wearing Jil Sander Man Pure, and that gives me similar satisfaction as Cacharel. Smooth sophisticated chypre with a beautiful cinamon note. Even harder to find than Cacharel, though

Answer:
I feel the same about Cacharel. I wore it a lot in the early 90's. I may have to cough up £30-40 for a bottle on e-bay.
I must try some of the recommendations on the_good_life's list, especially the Incensi and the Cappuci.
I've tried Noir Epices - it certainly has nutmeg as a dominant heartnote, with cinnamon and clove in the supporting cast. It has a strange, almost cream-soda, topnote on me that I cannot take to. Very interesting but not suave and reassuring like dear old Cacharel.

Answer:
I wasn't too big a fan of the fragrance but Noir Epices is not too similar to Cacharel. For one, Noir Epices is a little sweet, and Cacharel is not sweet whatsoever. In addition, the nutmeg in Noir Epices is not as dominating as Cacharel which to me, smells almost like straight nutmeg and woods. Vetiver is sort of similar in the sense that both are aromatic and somewhat bitter but Vetiver definitely has a grassy/green note and it does not have a nutmeg note that I can detect.
I... don't have much of a good answer. Try Heritage? It's KINDA like L'Homme but... better? I dunno. sry. :/

Answer:
Last time I wore Dunhill Edition I was heavily reminded of Cacharel, maybe because of the nutmeg.

Answer:
These are all excellent ideas; I really appreciate all of them. I have been wanting to pick up a bottle of Heritage for some time, so this might be the perfect opportunity. Likewise with R de Capucci. After reading the reviews on that fragrance, I really must add it to my collection.
Once again, thank you.

Answer:
As far as it's is a rather spicy classy scent, I find similarities to a great extent to Loewe Solo, give it a try. It has a nutmeg accord too, with cinnamon and lots of exotic spices - according to Loewe several hundreds. It is very well crafted, with good longevity.
