Busted spray
Question:
Perhaps someone could help. A few weeks ago the spray for my Cacharel stopped working. There is still plenty of cologne in the bottle, but nothing comes out. I have noticed that the tube which leads to the cologne seems to be planted square into the bottom of the bottle, leaving the opening of the tube no opportunity to draw liquid. (I hope that made sense)
Has anything similar to this ever happened to anyone else? And if so, how can I fix it?
Thank you very much.

Answer:
Nicholas, I'm afraid I can't help directly, as I have no idea how to get sprayers working or do any kind of maintenance on them. Worse, as you point out, the tube might be plugged by being flush on the bottom of the bottle, so no sprayer tinkering will help.
If it comes to the worst and you decide you'll have to take off the sprayer and decant into an atomizer, that's no fun either, but I've done it a few times with a sharp ice pick and needle nose pliers. It takes quite a bit of time carefully bending up enough of the sprayer's or its collar's edge, but after a while it starts to unravel and you can get the top off. Then you need an atomizer or splash bottle that will hold all the juice because there's no putting the bent sprayer back on as a cap.
Good luck, sorry I can't help further.

Answer:
Thank you very much. I really appreaciate the advice. You know, it happened once before, and I don't know how I fixed it. (I think that I was banging it on the mattress or something.)
Anyways, thanks a lot. I will give it a try.

Answer:
Nicholas V,
Try the following:
(1) Take off the little round sprayer mechanism, and wash it under hot water to make sure it's not clogged. Make sure to also soak it in some alcohol.
(2) If the problem isn't with the sprayer mechanism, try inverting your bottle and spraying it in the upside down position. Be sure to pump the sprayer a number of times quickly and forcefully. As strange as this might seem, you might get your bottle spraying again.
(3) If 1 and 2 fail, follow Chris's excellent instructions about how to remove the spray mechanism. You can buy a little tool kit of ice-pick-like implements at places like Home Depot or Loewe's. I have found that jewelry pliers that are used to cut pieces of metal or chain also work as well once the needle nose plier have pried the crimped metal off the neck of the bottle enough to allow you to cut away. You then simply cut away at the metal which invariably is made of lead or a lead-based metal given how soft it actually is. It's really quite easy. Once you've cut enough of the metal away, you should be able to life the whole spray mechanism off your bottle and decant the juice into another receptacle.
Hope all this helps.

I will definitely give that a try. And thank you very much for the advice. I really appreciate it.
