"Old" cologne if you had to wear one.... - Page 2
Question:
There are a whole bunch of Calvin(blue bottle) at my local scent boutique, and a couple of bottles of Gucci Nobile. Answer: Opium eau de parfum homme YSL Answer: Old colognes rule. I wont' even begin listing all of them but my top 5 colognes read as follows: Kouros Pi KL Homme and... Antaeus Havana Versace L'Homme Fahrenheit alternating for positions 4 and 5. Nuff said Answer: From the category of 1985-1995 I'd likely wear Obsession, Egoiste, Platinum Egoiste, CK One, Fahrneheit and Heritage. Testing Kouros Fraicheur also would be nice! Regarding the older stuff - Habit Rouge, Vetiver, Antaeus. Something like that. Answer: I hardly consider anything between 1985 and 1995 "old" but hey, here are my picks: (but i'm not a "younger guy"!, still i'd thought i could say what i would choose) Obsession for men Herrera for Men Égoïste Fahrenheit and many, many others. a decade of scents is a very long time! Answer: I'll stick to cologne because a load of suggestions are edt's and well here goes. 4711 Roger & Gallet extra vielle if this is what you're after, eau de colognes, with 2 to 5% aromatic compounds then have a look at the recent (month?) threads that have cologne in their title. If not well an old edt... Gucci Envy Answer: I don't consider that timeframe particularly old either. From that range I'd go with: From ca. 1985 - 1989... Jazz Sybaris Santos Eau de Sport Fahrenheit BdP Zino Cool Water (my dirty little secret) Lauder for Men Lacoste Original even though it was made in '84. New York - PdN Tsar if you can get the old stuff, do not get the new juice. If you can't get old Tsar, get Jazz instead From ca. 1990-1995 Chrome ... also just outside the date range but the '90s seem like the land of not-so-great frags to me... Bulgari PH Burberry for Men (god knows what they call it now) Platinum Egoiste (oddly I'm not that fond of Egoiste, but I think Platinum is good stuff) Sienna (C&E) Eau de 4 Voleurs - L'Occitane (here is a real throwback to classical cologne!) Photo (old juice only) LV Spezie LV Uomo Ungaro I ... but if you got Sienna this would be duplicative Kouros Fraicheur I definitely like old style "cologne" type colognes if that makes any sense. The modern twist on them appears to be something like Armani Mania (others will differ, but it comes off like a cologne to me), Eau des 4 Voleurs (L'Occitane) and Thierry Mugler Cologne of course. I also like Bouquet Imperiale but I could see a number of people being put off by the citrusy & floral notes... good juice anyhow. K Answer: Egoist Platinum for men Obsession for men Opium EDT for men (which I still wear occasionally) Answer: These three have stood the test of time clearly on their own merits, and for me personally have the added benefits of nostalgia going for them: Geoffrey Beene's Grey Flannel (it's a little before your time frame, but fits for me because that is time when I wore it) Dunhill Edition Lagerfeld Photo I basically just reminded myself to replace my bottle of Grey Flannel, I've been too long without it and it is too reasonably priced to omit. Answer: My favorite from the 80's? Hands down, Caron's Third Man. A sublime scent that somehow turns a Muligan Stew approach to ingredients into a undeniable classic.
