"Old" cologne if you had to wear one....
Question:
If you had a choice of some "older" colognes to wear, what would they be?
By older I mean anything from 1985 to 1995?
It interests me to see what the younger guys in thier 20's think of the older colognes and what they really like. Anything goes, any line name you've smelled and liked?

Answer:
I'm no young 'un, but The Dreamer is terrific. For a really old perfume, try Jicky.

Answer:
Coolwater, Egoiste, Fahrenhiet, Heritage instantly come to mind

Answer:
I usually find the current style of fresh, aquatic, light fragrances to be somewhat dull. As far as I'm concerned, if fragrances were music, the fresh/aquatic/light fragrances would be soft rock or easy listening and in some cases elevator music. Acceptable as background music but nothing which inspires passion. I'm reminded of being on hold on the phone one time and hearing the Muzak version of the Doors hit "Light My Fire". Nice and inoffensive but the passion was totally sucked out of the original song. The thing I like about what you call "Old" cologne is they have strong personalities, passion and make a definite statement. Anything with passion will rub some people th wrong way, but I would rather that then live without passion. That is not to say that fresh, aquatic, light fragrances don't have their place, day wear especially when it is warm they are appropriate. For something with more passion I would check out:
- Yatagan (1976) by Caron
- Bel Ami (1986) by Hermès
- Ungaro I (1991) by Ungaro
- JHL (1982) by Aramis
- Bois du Portugal (1987) by Creed
- Santos (1981) by Cartier
- Polo (1978) by Ralph Lauren
- Polo Crest (1991) by Ralph Lauren
- Givenchy Gentleman (1974) by Givenchy
My personal favorites are Santos, Gentleman, Yatagan and Polo Crest.

I just posted and exhaustive review of R de Capucci (1986). More substance and style than 400 releases from 2006 combined. Also, give Royal English Leather by Creed a try. It's older than the US Constitution, classy and regal, yet so creamy and lush and sexy I'm sure even I would even make Beyoncé Knowles week in the knees wearing it (well, almost).

Answer:
Actually,I'm seriously thinking of wearing scents that I wore back in junior, high school and freshman/sophomore in college. But alas, most of them do not smell as good as they did when I was younger. Most of them have been reformulated, weaker and more alcoholy. Don't get me started with Anteaus,it wasn't the Antheaus that I knew when I was in the 7th grade back in 1989.
Here are the scents that I might be going back to:
Devin
Original Aramis
Fahrenheit
Minotaure
Basara/Basala
Kouros
Tuscany
Trussardi Uomo
Zino
YSL Pour Homme Original
Obsession for Men

Answer:
To those already mentioned, I'll add:
Burberry Classic (1995)
Safari (1992)
Bvlgari PH (1996)

Answer:
Don't forget Karl Lagerfeld Classic (1978) even though it's from the late seventies it's the 80's concentrated in a bottle! Or Boss Number One (1985)...

Answer:
New West by Aramis; Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene; Devin by Aramis; and last-but-not-least Calvin (in the solid blue plastic bottle) by Calvin Klein (so hard to find these days...)

Answer:
Awesome...thanks!
