Surprising dissapointments - Page 3
Question:
I guess I am an oddball, like Godess_Dreams. Some of my favourites are mentioned here as other persons greatest dissapointments: SJP Lovely, Insolence, L´Instant de Guerlain, L´Heure Bleu and Stella. But my latsest really great dissapointment isn´t mentioned yet: YSL Opium. Nothing but smoke for a whole hour, after that sticky sweetnes on my skin. Answer: I wanted to like Eternity...I wanted it to smell as nice on me as it did on my favorite SA...but alas, it did not!!! I had a similar experience with the fragrance Dune. I would love to get the warm scent others can enjoy by wearing this fragrance...but I get nothing but tar. Answer: ANGEL. i was SO stoked when i read all the reviews of angel that said it was syrup-y sweet and smelld like cake and cookies, etc. i smelled it at nordstrom and CRIED! i stinks! my friend an i agreed it smells like something an old, bourbon drinking cigar smoking musty old man would wear while reading a dusty book in a leather chair by the fire (SO sorry to those of you who like angel). i was hoping for something along the lines of hanae mori butterfly, aquolina pink sugar, vera wang princess, or SOMETHING similar that actually smells like a bakery. i was/am distressed to find that something in such a fabulous bottle could smell so rotten. Answer: Out of all fragrances mentioned, my biggest disappointment was Stella. Where is the sunny amber? Where is the rose? All I am getting is exhaust fumes with a little floralcy thrown in to justify the color purple, I guess. Out of the fragrances not (yet) mentioned, I was entirely disappointed by: 1) most Creeds; 2) please do not kill me right now with your contempt -- by the 3 new Exclusiffs by Chanel (# 18, Bel Respiro and La Pausa), all lacking in originality and imaginative impact as well as historic continuity; 3) both Nordstrom's exclusives -- Vertigo Vertigo and Hypnotica leave much to be desired, and I even wondered if by some terrible mistake I was sniffing something by Ms.Spears, or new seasonal Cotys; 4) Bond # 9 -- nice bottles, nice concepts, need more depth, not just top notes for the amount of money they want, and staying power; 5) some Frederick Malles are just not made for my skin. All JMHO, no offence to the wearers and admirers. Answer: I applaud your honesty, Twolf! It's much better to have someone call them like they see them than otherwise. And it takes courage to say "Hmmph..." to something like the Chanels. But honest opinions are more valuable than hype. Answer: After joining BN, and sniffing some "niche", I must admit that my biggest disappointment so far is L´Artisan Parfumeur. I haven´t tried all from that house, doubt I ever will...I used to like ONE - Mure et Musc, but even that one doesn´t appeal to me anymore. The biggest disappointment was La Chasse aux Papillons, though. I´ve read many reviews and opinions about it, but I honestly can´t relate to much of it. La Chasse is a joke on my skin! Another rather recent surprising disappointment was Agent Provocateur. Reading the notes, I was convinced I was gonna like it, bought it blind (I know, I know.. ) but found it absolutely horrible. Answer: For me: almost all Annick Goutals, especially Songes. I only like Vanille Exquise. This actually makes me want to re-try Thierry Mugler Angel! Sounds like my kind of scent... Even though ANGEL isn't my favorite, and I don't wear it anymore, I have to say it isn't as hideous as you make it out. It's just not for you. I got alot of compliments wearing it, which really surprised me. By your list of scents that you like, you seem to like fruitier, lighter types of scents, and ANGEL is neither. It's a heavier, chocolate-patchouli scent. Totally different than what your used to, doesn't mean it's rotten. Answer: THANK YOU FOR USING MY THREAD;I SEE IT AS A COMPLIMENT BECAUSE I'M JUST A NEWBIE.I LIKE IT WHEN A FEW WORDS GIVE SO MANY REACTIONS.
