Question:
Have actually managed to lay low for several months! Going to Florence at the end of this month though and will definitely visit the Villoresi studio and the original Santa Maria Novella shop, have a feeling the musk and/or Nostalgia of the latter will be up my alley. Further I´m very tempted to get Kiehl´s Musk edt, really nice one.

Answer:

Bark buddy, sorry it has taken me a few hours to reply. *I had to go get both bottles and smell them a while in order to know what to say about them. *
First, the SL Vetiver Oriental is fantastic. *I could go signature scent with this baby. *There is something very old, very 1980s, very deeply manly about it, and I love it. *\
--Chris Always a pleasure to read your descriptions! I recall when VO came this past Christmas while I was home in Upstate NY (After 12 years, it's still hard not to think of it as home), and before I even had the chance to unscrew the top I caught a whiff of its essence from the box. I couldn't agree more with your observations of there being something very old and deeply masculine about it, very... gentleman-like is what I thought when I first smelled it. The chocolate notes really add a new dimension and character to it, without being cloyingly sweet like it often comes across in other fragrances (I was never much a fan of Hanae Mori or Rochas Man). Here, it gives it that extra whisper of warmth that just made it feel like one of those perfect fragrances for that particular time and place (a few years earlier, I was saying the same thing about L'Artisans Eau du Navigateur when it arrived at the same place/time of year).
The Floris version sounds quite good as well, though I find Vetiver fragrances to vary in so many different ways it's hard to know what you're actually smelling sometimes. LV's Vetiver smells very earthy to me, whereas Route Du Vetiver smells like it has much more going on. Creed's Original Vetiver is nice, but somewhat "safe", and i profu....firenze's Fresco di Vetiver is a little soapy but great nonetheless. It's just one of those notes that I'm now getting around to sniffing out.

Answer:
Bulgari Black - delicious black rubber and smoky tea - I could happily smell like this every day
YSL PH HC - strikes me as a very straightforward and very good lemon verbena (an herb that smells almost like a citrus) (so it's a bit longer lasting)... what are the other notes in there I'm missing?
Cuiron - I can find the fruity top note (very light, berrylike, pleasing) but not all the leather that's supposedly in there. Am I a dolt? Am I missing some smell receptors? Did I get a bad batch? Anybody?
