Room Sprays: Suitable as Cologne? - Page 2

Answer:
Griff,
A scent is a scent. As long as it's classy enough and sophisticated enough, I don't see a reason why not!
I've actually worn something so outrageous as Pier 1's Citrus Cilantro (trust me, smells better than it sounds) as a scent and has worked fine for me.
As long as you don't smell like a public bathroom or smell as like you've used something to try and kill a foul odor, it's all good! ;D ;D ;D
I've also used a lamp oil by Crabtree & Evelyn called Noel as a Christmas Cologne with no strange looks of objection or strange suspicions of oddity!

Answer:
I don't think it's very wise to wear something that wasn't intended to be worn, it may contain chemicals that could damage your skin. Not everything that smells good is a cologne

Answer:
When I went to a L'Occitane shop looking for Vetyver EdT, they were out the SA but suggested I try their Vetyver room spray, as long as I didn't have sensitive skin.

I have to disagree, while some sprays do indeed say "not to be sprayed directly on skin"...for example, Esteban room sprays, many room sprays actually suggest that they can be worn on the skin, including Voluspa, Savonnerie Bormes, Creed, Mountain Rose, Vie Luxe, Diptyque, Molton Brown, etc...I always read the ingredients and test something on my skin before going whole hog.
For Example, from Molton Brown.com

Answer:
I sometimes use Jo Malone's White Hyacinths Room spray. Its longevity is better than many other fragrances' and it doesn't have any negative effects for my skin etc (but Malone's room sprays , called "living colgnes" are labeled as "to use for your room or for yourself&quot. Actually, it's a really good scent, very clean, fresh and flowery; somehow similar to Guerlain's Lillia Bella. I think room sprays are more linear than other colognes. But their lack of complexity is part of the aromatherapy concept behind their creation.

Answer:
Marlen is always right! I love the Diptyque Galliano candle, and wished it was available as a scent. Never thought about using the room spray, until Marl's suggestion, but I tried it out yesterday and was immediately won over. Good lasting power and no adverse skin reaction. The sales assistant in Harvey Nicks positively encourages the use of Diptyque room sprays as personal scents, BTW.

I saw a small article about Costes EDT and Room Spray on Bois de Jasmin before and I had a pretty high expectaion for these fragrances. I finally managed to obtain small 1ml vials of these from Aedes. Well, no offense to those who find these fragrances unique and beautiful, but I was not really impressed. The EDT starts with what appears to be a combination of cloves and some pepper. It's sort of spicy first 5-10 minutes, but it soon turns into "Bois d'Iris". Kind of *"iris with ginger”(to my nose). Maybe a little more woods (sandalwood and cedarwood) than Bois d'Iris? Eventually, it changes into soapy musk with sweet roses, which smells pretty feminine. The Room Spray starts out much thicker. My nose tells me it has more cloves and some sharp spicy leaves smelling like a dentist's office. For some reasons, it reminded me of the spicy top of Piper Nigrum (much much milder, though). I also can find patchouli and cedarwood there. I can detect some sweet roses used in it as well. Kind of clove-spicy-woody-sweet. And "Bois d'Iris" note is there as well though not as apparent as EDT. Unlike EDT, the scent does not change much. Is this what the Hotel Costes smell like in the lobby? I'd rather spray Piper Nigrum and Bois d'Iris. I hope I don' t offend anyone, but I think thery're ones of those over-rated fragrances...

Answer:
I've used Diptyque's Tuberose & Gardenia room scents with a very light hand. I find they have more staying power than the regular Diptyque EDTs.
I sometimes use those lavender, rose & cotton scented linen sprays in the summer for just a hint of fragrance on a hot & humid day.
I read somewhere that Drew Barrymore wears one of the Glade scents. LOL ;D [smiley=grin.gif] I think it ws something pumpkin-spicey or cinnamoney, and don't remember if it was the scented oil or the actual spray. But then again someone like Drew barrymore could easily get away with that.
