Guerlain Vetiver
Question:
Based on the reviews of this I went against my instincts and bought it blind. After much anticipation it arrived today and I excitedly tried it out...YIKES. My first impression is that of dirty ashtrays, and after that something like an old backed up coal fireplace. Now I'm stuck with a 4.2 ml bottle of liquid smoke that I need to figure out how to unload...HELP!

Answer:
Spray from a distance and use no more than three sprays. That should help tone down the tobacco. Have you tried vetiver scents before? If not, then you shouldnt have bought it without trying.

Some love it, some hate it. And even those who love it often had to go through a time of adjusting themselves to it.
caveat emptor!

I guess I started to wonder if this scent was different from other vetivers I had tried. Just goes to show that you can't always believe the hype...oh well, guess I'll try to sell it.

caveat emptor! Thanks Eluard...I don't think I'll ever be in the "love it" camp. Oh well as you said BUYER BEWARE...I guess this can be chalked up to experience.

Answer:
At least hold on to it until the summer. You may feel quite different about this one in warmer weather.

If not, at least you tried.

Answer:
When I first tried this scent the only thought I had was of a horrible stench. I gave it a few more tries to be sure and each time seemed to draw me back. Over a number of tries spanning several weeks I grew to appreciate and enjoy it. Give it some time before giving up entirely. Try it, as mentioned, in different weather.

Answer:
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll try but as of right now I doubt I'll ever be an afficionado of this one. Either way thanks I appreciate the advice, I'm sure many of us have purchases they regret...at least this wasn't that expensive of a lesson.

Answer:
sorry to hear that you were disappointed in the purchase. At least you know to steer clear of vetiver scents for the time being. I've done full circles on many fragrances.. as others have pointed out, don't dismiss it on first try. Most of the frags in my collection that have really made impact were ones I "hated" at first.
Bois Du Portgual being the best example...
You might live to like it, you might live to dislike it immensely..but play with it a bit before putting it away.
a.

Answer:
Like others here, I didn't like it at first. Now I like it very much.
Wait and see.
