Why do you purchase designer when there are copies? - Page 4
Question:
Quality, material/fabric, the principle of originality of design.
Fair enough, some chain store copies are worth it, but on the whole I find that the fabrics designer houses use are much better quality. No one can really tell between copies and the real deal, but I can tell the difference when I wear it.

Answer:
I usually buy clothes and accessories by international designer labels. I cannot stand chainstores like Sportsgirl or Witchery, but I sometimes buy at CR or Cue for work clothes.
Also, I like to buy cheap basics at Target, like plain t-shirts. So I tend to wear a mixture of high-end designer labels and cheaper clothes.
But I would never buy a blatant designer copy from a chainstore, or a counterfeit item. I would rather own the genuine article, because I appreciate the design and quality of the item. And I like to own things which are unique and not something which everybody else has.

Answer:
Witchery bothers me...from a distance it all looks lovely, and up close, the quality can be absolute rubbish - the prices they charge in that place are unbelievable for what you get. The construction of their clothes is okay, but the fabrics... And Sportsgirl, good grief, I can't believe people hand over their hard earned money there - go to Target, the quality is much better than that place!

Answer:
s2dreamer if you dont want to buy designer and you are happy to buy copies or 'inspired' versions good on you theres no need for any of us to 'convince' you otherwise if thats what you prefer so be it.
Most of my designer purchases are shoes which i have a huge problem with but im getting help for that addiction seriously though i just dont seem to find shoes in 'cheaper' stores that do it for me not even the 'copies' of the designers shoes im lemming, its so hard for me to go into chain store shoe shops and find shoes i want to buy so i just dont go in them anymore.
As for designer clothes I just buy whatever i designer or not, if i like it, it looks good on me, the quality is decent ill buy it, if not i wont, even if it has a designer tag on it or the new 'it' piece because if it is designer it can still look like **** on and a cheaper inspired dress could be cut slightly different and actually suit you more. So i say wear and buy what you want and can afford according to what suits you and your style.

Answer:
^^agreed listay, some good points =)
for me though, if i think i'll keep something forever, i want the real thing and i look at it as a good investment =)
otherwise i agree with listay and get whatever you can afford, and make sure it suits you, don't just buy the label

Even if 'others' dont know its designer, you know it is

You know what, I really rate that sort of honesty. If it makes you happy then it is no ones place to give you **** for it (after all, only an unwell individual would want to take away anothers happiness). I wish there were more people who would just loudly and proudly say it

Answer:
my mum once gave me this witchery dress because she was sewing them, and when i had it and then saw it in the shops i was like - ugh $130 for this?
sometimes i'd rather buy a copy or something similar from valleygirl for $25 rather than paying $130 on something that looks exactly the same and just cos it has a better label tag.

Answer:
I admit i designer accessories and have a large handbag collection of dior, LV etc and also lots of designer sunnies and jewellery etc.
However due to funds (or lack of really, haha!) my wardrobe of clothes is made up of mid price chain store pieces that i find to be of reasonable quality and aussie designers. Because my partner and i go out a lot for cocktails and meals, i invest the bulk of my wardrobe budget into glam cocktail dresses by labels like zimmerman. I have about 20 and consider them an investment as they aren't "trendy" pieces.
At the end of the day i love designer items because they are sexy and glam and i get a great deal of pleasure form wearing them- and i'm as marketed-to as every other individual in this consumer society!
In fact, i think if you don't care for labels you're very lucky and no doubt have a healthier bank balance than those of us that do!
