top designers leave 'downmarket' Myer - Page 3

I really think Myer needs to concentrate on being the mid-tier department store. It doesnt have much chance being at the level DJs is so it should keep that niche inbetween market. Alot of people like the fact that Myer has so much variety from the low range Miss Shop to the inbetween Wish, Country Road, Cue etc to the range of Australian and International Designer. Although ofcourse the latter isnt on the same level as DJs but at the end of the day it really shouldnt try so hard to be on that level. It should concentrate on keeping that variety and not trying too hard to be something it really isnt. I personally think they should invest more on the mid-level range which I dont think DJs caters as much for. Hope that makes sense. Answer: I agree that David Jones has the better labels, but I always find that the elizabeth st and chatswood stores are a mess, I asked the girl at the chatswood store once about a certain label and style name and she had no idea what i was talking about, so I dont think the service is better, but then I walked around the myer city store (sydney) last week trying to get someone to serve me in the shoe dept, I actually gave up and walked out. I ended up purchasing a pair of miss sixty heels at david jones, service was ok only because it was dead, but the guy couldnt manage a smile. The worst was yet to come when I was looking in the young designer section with 2 staff members bitching about having too much work and not enough staff. These days I would much rather buy online and get great service which i have so far...both retailers need to look at more than just what labels they stock also.... Answer: It's kind of funny how Myer are suddenly going downmarket after they split from Coles. It's a shame because for a while there they were starting to get it right. Obviously they want the prestige factor of having top local designers but hmmm's right, they really need to pick an area and stick to it. Answer: I only go into Myer to browse through the International Designers like Cacharel, See by Chloe, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, etc. Otherwise I prefer David Jones. Answer: i love the stuff in DJs better! THE Atmosphere, setting and arrangements look so much classier and more on trend Answer: myer also tends to play horrible elevator music Answer: Originally Posted by jazzbaby ^ Yep they stock Shakuhachi. I much prefer the customer service at Myer than Djs though...whenever I ask for help there, the djs SA's (except for a very few exceptions) are totally clueless about any of the clothes that I'm talking about. I've lost count of how many rude SA's I've encountered at the Elizabeth St store Whereas I've never had a negative experience shopping at Myer. Also their lay-by fee is alot cheaper than Djs too I agree, the SAs at Myer are generally very down to earth when I shop there and helpful. However I have to say I have never received service for DJs, even when I was lingering around for a long time actually wanting service! Originally Posted by novo myer also tends to play horrible elevator music they play horrible in-store music as well When I was working there over Xmas, I was totally going out of my mind out of the dodgy music that repeated the same 5 songs over and over again! Answer: ..and also the fact DJs took over Myer in burwood. Answer: Remember when it was first announced that Newbridge was taking over Myer? We had high hopes it would revamp Myer into a Debenhams, Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman (the other department stores Newbridge owns)... It would've been good competition with David Jones...
