Made in Italy? Not really.
Question:
My friend recently went to Hong Kong for business, and visited the factory where her clothing line is manufactured. She said top European labels such as Chloe are made out of the same place, and the designers get away with the "Made in Italy" tag by sending the garments back to Italy to be 'finished' (ie buttons sewn on etc).
Is this common knowledge? I was shocked. Brands like Chloe charge soooo much!!

Answer:
Well I know that some other high end brands are actually Made in China but they say so on the labels... This is rather appaling news to me... especially with the price tag...

Answer:
my mum's client owns a factory that makes watches for Gucci and they're in HK :s

Answer:
I can only imagine how much that increases their profit margin...they must make so much money off their consumers

Answer:
Well it makes perfect sense... How else can they afford to make runway appearances every season, produce haute couture(not Chloe but other brands) simply for creative direction not profit, make expensive campaigns, have exclusive and elaborate stores and pay everyone excessively?

Answer:
I figured.
Some of them do it in a less sneaky way by saying things like 'Fabric made in Italy' or 'Finished in Italy'.
It's so wrong though and I'm starting to think how I'd feel if I was one of those workers and the Italians take credit for my product....

Answer:
It's like how 'Italian wool' is really Australian wool but milled in Italy, although I must say I'm quite proud of this fact I try to buy merino wool as much as possible because it's usually Australian!

Answer:
Yeah I assumed so, I think it's the way of the manufacturing future.

Answer:
i knew it was too good to be true.
