The Petite Girl Thread - Page 2
Question:
I spent 6 years in Asia which was absolutely lovely because I was the standard size which meant I had access to the most popular size. Having said that Australia does size up incredibly. I would come back on holidays and try and size 8 (which is generally the smallest size in oz isnt it, although 6 is becoming a bit more common) and they would SWIM on me! The only downsize to wearing the most popular size in Asia, I had to nab clothes off the rack as soon as they came in otherwise they'd sell out straight away! Bear in mind also that there isn't the variety in sizes of women that there is in Australia. I would say 80% of Hong Kong Chinese women are size 6-8. Answer: I spent last summer in japan which was so fantastic because I could actually buy clothes that fitted me! every store stocked clothes in sizes 4-6!!! i went crazy and had to buy a new suitcase to bring all my goodies home! girlies if u are sick and tired of having to re-sew all those clothes trust me and catch a flight to tokyo!! yummy! Answer: Great thread! It is really hard finding clothes to fit if you are small. I have very narrow hips and shoulders which is a nightmare. You don't get any sympathy either! I agree with others that sizing is increasing. Just to prove it, I have been clearing out old clothes and found a Country Road Jacket that I bought in my teens in the early nineties and it was a size eight and still fits me. I now buy a size 4 in CR in suit jackets, and sometimes they are too big!!! This vanity sizing is ridiculous. My faves for small sizes are: Satch, BL, CR XS, jeans from Sass and Bide or Tsubi, and of course Kookai (who do great small sizes, except when they do one size fits all which they seem to be doing more). Answer: i am short but i find all the kids top sand stuff are still way to small for me lol Answer: Originally Posted by missfashionista I spent 6 years in Asia which was absolutely lovely because I was the standard size which meant I had access to the most popular size. Answer: I'm 5 ft, and I have short stumpy legs I also look young too - if I didnt wear glasses so often I would probably be mistaken for a 15 year old all the time! My friends and acquaintances comment that I manage to look my age, if not older, by dressing more sophisticatedly. A lot of my corporate wardrobe consists of tailored pants and skirts in greys and browns (my trick is to op shop! They seemed to have smaller sizes back in the days!) Pleated skirts are my best friends, they give me more volume down there (where a bum is unfortunately lacking), so are shift dresses and pintucked dresses worn with belts. Heels are never too high, because I think that makes me look disproportionate. Obviously I frequent my tailor and op shops, but I also find the sizing at Review, Kookai, Cue, Satch to be sufficient. Country Road is my favourite place for shrunken cardigans! For jeans, I swear by Wranglers - I've long outgrown bootleg styles and now prefer the straightlegged classic look. No skinnies! I've got a few items from international labels too, they seem to be on the smaller side - Tsumori Chisato, Vanessa Bruno. Maticevski and Akira's smallest size would also be good for a petite size 6. It's also nice to have a sewing machine at home so I can do a lot of my own alterations or even make my own clothes. I hardly ever shop nowadays! I generally buy my work clothes from Cue and Veronika Maine but have to alter a lot of items - I've learnt to do it myself which is good - and generally always wear a belt. Me too! Their sixes used to be PERFECT but in recent months they've changed... which is such a disappointment because the cue clothing company (which is veronika maine too) was an absolutely perfect fit. I hate to admit this but Supre it probably the store that has the best sizing... xxxs for dresses/tops xxs for skirts/pants (I'm hourglass shaped) Answer: I find most of my clothing in Supre and Valleygirl because they seem to make them quite small. Answer: I'm probably not that 'petite' as i am 160cm, but i do find sizing really weird in most chains stores. I swear in the late 90s i was a size 8-10 and now size 6s fit me, and sometimes are even too big which is ridiculous as i'm not even that small. Answer: I'm 5'7 so I'm not 'petite' as in short but I'm a size 6 and find casual clothes ok to find but where do you all shop for work/corporate clothes? In particular, shirts and tops? I've trekked around Tokito, Portmans, Miss Shop, Cue and their 6s swim on me. It's really frustrating - I've just started working full time so have needed to buy a whole new work wardrobe at once but I'm really struggling to find any tops that aren't huge on me. Supre button-up short-sleeved 'work' shirts are the only ones I've found that fit really well... but I don't really want to dress in Supre tops for the rest of my working life.
