Replacing heels on boots
Question:
Has anyone every taken boots to a shoe repairer/bootmaker and had heels changed on boots? I bought some very high ones last winter that I would like lower heels on but not sure how they will turn out! Answer: You can't really 'lower' the height of heels because the front of the shoe is cut according to the heel. If you lowered the heel, the front of the shoe would sit at a funny angle, if you understand what I mean. Answer: do a search... there are a couple of threads about this subject... there a number of people here that have had success having this done to shoes (my mum being one person)... but in most cases the heel can only be lowered by a small amount... Answer: Yeah, it would be a small amount. I took boots in to be reheeled and due to the way that the heel was made he said that he could cut it down to reheel - I almost cried!!! Then he worked out how to do it to keep them extra high Answer: My mum once succeeded in getting the heels or a pair of shoes lowered, but that was because the last was positioned at a generous angle. Check with your bootmaker first. Answer: I had some heels replaced on some normal shoes last week, and the process of re-heeling always lowers the heel a tiny bit (or so I was told). Like the others have mentioned, I'm sure it depends on the shoe, but mine could accommodate the shortening (it was only a few mm though!) Answer: Sorry, slight OT but does anyone have any recs for a bootmaker in Syd who charges less then $13? I have tonnes of cheapo but cute shoes from Asia that were all around the $30 mark and still wanna keep but don't wanna spend $13 on each pair.... Maybe you'd get more specific responses if you made a separate thread (or perhaps do a search). Sorry I can't help much, I'm not in Sydney! Answer: You can lower them, but only to a certain extent.
