Culling Clothes
Question:
Hi there I was reading an article in a magazine the other day and realised that I have ALOT of old clothes that I am keeping because they are still in good condition and I think one day maybe I will wear them again or alter them to make them fresh. I just can't seem to let go and it is bogging me down. I am a hoarder I believe. i have stuff from around 5-7 years ago and not what I would call investment pieces. Does anyone else share my problem? Or are there any people out there who are great cullers and can give me some tips or encouragement lol. Thanks Gals Answer: Hmmmm, I am the complete opposite. I CANNOT hoard and I really try! So, sorry, I can't really help; my throw-out-iness seems inborn. Edited to add:maybe go through everything and make a pile of stuff you REALLY can live without, then put it in a bag in the garage or bottom of the cupboard until you forget about it. Then, when you restumble across it, don't open it but take it straight to Vinnies! Answer: Swish - Circa Ebay I was a hoarder but now I have a basic rule, hasn't been worn for 12 months - off on Ebay. It's the only way I've found to cull the closet, now my Ebay selling pretty much funds my new investments. Give it a go! Answer: I'm like that - but with makeup... Answer: ebay ebay ebay! I wouldn't say that i used to hoard, but i did definitely have more clothes then i could wear, so i do an ebay auction every few months to get rid of things that just arent getting worn. most of the clothes that i put up on ebay have only been worn once or twice!! sometimes you can get close to RRP, othertimes im not so lucky, but i figure i may as well cut my losses while i can, and free up some closet space!! be ruthless! Answer: yeah i am a hoarder although i have been culling a lot recently. i have had clothes in my wardrobe for approx 12 years. i went through all the older stuff and saved a dress or two and a funky jacket or two and will plastic wrap them for kiddies for the future etc etc etc it feels great to cull Answer: I used to do that, thinking that I'd wear things again (e.g. thay'd come back into fashion) or that I'd save them for my daughters. Now though, I only keep 'investment' pieces, that is, classic, timeless, 'not in fashion' type clothes, that are of very high quality (e.g. no stains, good natural fabric etc), and I carefully fold them in tissue and store them, so they don't clog up my regular clothes! Answer: I did have the same problem until I found ebay and got most of my money back. Answer: I just sold about a hundred items on ebay of things that have been in my wardrobe but I have never worn- It's hard to cut down but you just have to try and be realistic and ask yourself, 'Am I really going to wear this?'. Also, my rule is that I'll sell it if I haven't worn it in a year. And look on the bright side, if you sell your old clothes you'll have more funds for other things Answer: I was doing this (keeping old clothes [still in good condition] and thinking 'one day maybe I will wear them again') and just last week I 'culled' a lot of tops, dresses, skirts, pants, and shoes. It was such a good feeling to let go of these things which I hadn't worn for a year or two! You've gotta let go of the old to let in the new!
