mineral makeup advice
Question:
I started reading the very long thread on mineral makeup but only got to about the 30th page of about 250!!! would love any recs about colour choice - am planning to get the sample pots to try. I have tanned olive skin in summer (now). Any recs that you guys have would be great, I usually use Laura Mercier in Golden Beige or Honey Beige, but am thinking of making the switch to minerals as I've heard it's great. Any recs, advice or photos ould be greatly appreciated!! Answer: go to www.everydayminerals.com and they have swatches available. Mineral makeup is also rather colour forgiving I have found. Answer: the makeuptalk.com forums are great for advice on mineral makeup, and photos etc Answer: Thanks guys, will check it out Answer: Also try Meow. I have just ordered some samples and a brush after reading the Meow thread. I also have some Ocean samples that I have not tried yet. They look a little yellow in the pots though Answer: The main thing is what is your skin like - dry, combo, oily, breakout prone, sensitive etc? If you let us know that we might be able to suggest companies Answer: A while ago I got sucked in and purchased the Sheer Cover set after watching an infomercial It was awful and put me off MM for a long time. It was like rubbing sand on my face. Answer: Hi I've tried quite a few mineral makeup & i'm still sampling. This is depite the fact that i have 3 full sizes of Meow, 2 full sizes of Everyday Minerals and 2 full sizes of Val. I guess i'm still searching for my HG. To me EDM is nice but it does not have a good staying power. My midday, my foundation is gone. Also, i hate the fact that it takes about 1 month for the stuff to reach me. Anything that takes that long to reach me is scratched off my book. Meow is quite nice.. (the pampered puss) i think, but my face itches when i sweat. Also, even though they have soo much colours, i can't seem to find my perfect colour. Shipping is fast too. Val seem to have the most staying power and coverage among all three. Great customer service. Only bad thing is that now she has imposed a $20 minimum for international order. Not too happy about that. http://www.valeriebeauty.com/index.c...subcatid/33162 Those that i am still sampling.. Lumiere: Coverage seemed very light. Very nice and natural.. but i need more coverage as i have a lot of acne marks. Also, Kim used to be super fast in replying mails. Now i think everyone seemed to want to try her foundation and replies kind went downhill from there. She did say in her site that she's moving to a bigger place, so maybe that's why. But she still hasn't replied my mail from 4 weeks ago.. http://www.lumierecosmetics.com/ Ocean Mist: This gives me a slightly luminous look. Kind of like Lumiere in terms of coverage. Looks very natural. I haven't tried it for a full day so not sure of the staying power. By the way, shipping is super fast for OC. I received a shiiping confirmation the next day and received my samples within 1 week. Samples is free, pay for shipping. http://www.oceanmistcosmetics.com/index.php Signature Minerals: Haven't tried for a full day, more coverage thab Lumiere & OC. The colours are too dark for me though. Samples is free, pay for shipping. http://signatureminerals.com/ I'm still waiting for samples for Monave. It seems that a lot of ppl say that Monave has the best coverage and staying power. It is also the most expansive among all the minerals. I can't wait for my Monave to arrive. http://www.monave.com/ Milan Minerals: Now for girls who are tan or women of colour, this is the mineral sites for them. I have also ordered.. awaiting samples.. lol. Because this is geared for women of colour, it doesn't seem to have that 'ashy' look that a lot of mineral foundation gives. So i heard.. so quite excited with this one.. http://www.milanminerals.com/ I have combination skin, with heaps of acne marks on my cheeks. Asian, NC 35. Hope that helps. Answer: my favourites at the moment are Lumiere & Twisted Fayte Answer: I may as well list what I've tried. I am fair (Stila B/C'ish, Chanel #10) with very dry, very sensitive skin that is also breakout prone. I've tried: Alima http://www.alimacosmetics.com/ This wasn't drying, but it was such a light coverage (no coverage???) I couldn't tell I was wearing it - and not in a good way My skin looked better before I applied it... Barefaced Minerals http://barefacedminerals.com/ This didn't make much of ann impression on me...so much so I can't even remember what it was like I do know I didn't like it on my dry skin though... Everyday Minerals http://www.everydayminerals.com/ I liked the glowy finish of the EM semi-matte, but it settled in all my fine lines and showed up dry areas really badly. Definitely too drying for me. Pretty sure it was the kaolin in it, which can be drying. Lumiere http://www.lumierecosmetics.com/ I really wanted to like this, as the company owner Kim is so lovely and the CS is brilliant. Unfortunately it was too drying and heavy for me, settling into lines and accentuating dry areas Meow http://www.meowcosmetics.com/ They have 3 formulas - Purrfect Puss, Pampered Puss and Flawless Feline. On me the 2 PPs give a light, natural coverage that still makes your face more polished and provides some coverage. I haven't tried the FF but it is apparently heavier and provides more coverage. The main difference between Purrfect and Pampered is that Pampered contains Zinc Oxide. I liked the Purffect but it broke me out, and it was suggested that the Pampered would be better for me because of the ZO2. So far so good... If it doesn't break me out this will be the one I get I have found a good match in a blend of Frisky Siamese and Mau. The Cat Glow powder is a lovely subtle glow powwder too. Pure Luxe http://pureluxecosmetics.com/home.php Another one that was too drying for my skin. Again, it has kaolin in it which I think was the culprit. Maybe better for combo/oily skins? But..."You Glow Girl" and "Radiance" at PL are lovely subtle glowy powders, and alot of their e/s and e/l are brilliant UGloGirl http://www.uglogirl.com/ Melissa, the owner, is one of the loveliest people I have ever chatted with. I quite liked UGG, and it definietly wasn't cakey or heavy. Unfortunately though it just didn't last long on my face, I'd say due to a combo of the heat and my often physical job. But if you want light glowy coverage and don;t have to worry about heat or running around I'd suggest this Oh, and her blushes are to die for!!!
