I'm also on the hunt for an epilator but can't decide which one to get. I've done a bit of research on these forums and on MUA but I'm still undecided. There are so many conflicting views: some say the Emjois die after 1 year or so, while others say they're still going strong after 5+ years.
I'm deciding between two at the moment:
both are on sale
Braun Silk Epil Eversoft - $45 at Priceline
Emjoi Body Bare Ultimate - $120 at Shaver Shop
the Silk Epil Eversoft comes in other colours
there are also other models under the Silk Epil line such as the X'elle and Soft Perfection, so when I read reviews about the 'Silk Epil' I have no idea which one they're referring to!
can anyone provide any thoughts or other recommendations?
I don't know whether to invest in an epilator or continue with waxing

i had the braun silk, and after a year it died (got my moneys worth though). So then i decided to invest in the emjoi ultimate (ultimate ### price!). i am sooo dissapointed, i wish i could return and got back to the braun.
It is hard up picking any small hairs up, i am so annoyed.

I certainly don't recommend anything by Emjoi - I purchased the Emjoi Optima back in Sep 2004 and while I find it works really well, my third, yes third replacement just died last night, all under a year old.
Emjoi is now run by Sunbeam in Australia and their customer service is diabolical. 3 times I've had to post (my expense) the unit to Sydney, they test it, and then replace it, took 2 months last time.
I will never buy anything Sunbeam ever again! can't be bothered with the hassle.
So this weekend will be buying the Braun Silkepil I think. Want something with lots of tweezers as don't mind the pain but want it to work quickly.
Use it on legs and underarms, never had any bleeding spots. Does break off the hair tho, but think this might happen with most brands.
The Optima was too large to work on the bikini area (and anyone who rips hair from down there wax or epilator is a braver person than me! Bring hairy back into fashion I say.)

My new Braun X'elle arrived today and it is FANTASTIC! Couldn't find one to buy in the shops in Central Highlands or Capricorn Coast so ordered from Shavershop.com.au and came in 2 days.
Don't even need to use the fancy attachments, the pro-clip and max tweezers do it for me. The light is a great idea too.
Might even try the small adaptor for the bikini area...
