I'd also recommend Kai - it is the closest to a true pure gardenia smell I have come across, without any other elements mixed in. You can get it from Mecca.
I have also purchased Gardenia Passion by Annick Goutal, which is nice, but a heavier fragrance, and also Gardenia by Chanel, which is also nice (I'm pretty sure I got mine at DJ's in Sydney), but my favourite is Kai.
