Spray Tan: Preperation & maintaining.
Question:
Im getting my first spray tan this friday & was wondering how I can prepare for it? As in do I exfoliate e.c.t . .? and how do maintain it so It doesnt go patchy. thanks

Answer:
Hi, Yes you have to exfoliate before you have it done. They say you can just use a face washer, but if you have some type of loofer, use that. After the spray tan you need to moisturise every day to prolong the life. Also, after you shower, pat your skin dry rather than rubbing skin with towel. Spray tans can sweat off too, so if you go to the gym etc, keep that in mind.

Answer:
Yep thats all correct, exfoiiliate beforehand, then pat dry after a shower and moisturise daily
and dont have long hot showers with soap

Answer:
has any tried the spray tan lengtheners (cant think of the word?) im suspicious of them being any better than just moisturiser and the one ella bache keeps trying to sell me is quite expensive. worth it?

Answer:
I had been using ella bache (approx $45) for ages until just recently I bought Le Tan spray tan ($15) whilst I was shopping. I actually prefer Le Tan. It smells like vanilla. You can still smell that dirty potato smell like all fake tans have but the smell washes away with the first wash. I re-apply 6-7 days after my first application which prolongues the tan for a few more days. It's an even coverage. The darker spots seem to wash away in the shower If you have large boobs though, the rubbing tends to fade away the tan. So I wear t-shirt bras.
I have tried quite a few faux tans too like Model Co, Palmers, Johnsons, Sun FX and other salon sprays. There is also a great little place in Maroubra Beach that do spray tans. Colour is great and it's quite cheap!!

I also use the Le Tan with the vanila smell. I find it great for an even coverage. I also use it on my face ( is it safe to use on the face? I have never had any dry patches, pimples, rashes etc)

Answer:
Make sure you use water-based moisturisers - I think most are, I think even a cheap one like Nivea is water-based.
I don't rate 'extenders' - I've used the magic tan one and didn't notice a difference.
I used to scrub my skin raw to exfoliate with body scrub and loofah gloves, use water-based moisturisers and be careful with your shower gels etc.. there is some ingredient (PSP? SPS?? something like that) that makes your tan disappear quicker. I remember a great thread years ago that discussed this.
