Volumising products to use when hair is dry
Question:
I have fine, medium length hair with shorter layers that I have blow dried at the salon every Saturday. My HD does a fantastic job of creating volume at the roots, but after I've slept on it, my hair just goes flat at the top by Sunday! I've tried pinning the top sections of my hair up in curlers, then using hair spray, which looks fantastic for an hour, but then it drops and goes flatter than ever!
Because I don't want to wash and blow dry my hair all over again, it'd be great if someone could suggest a product that would give my hair more lift at the roots but would not need the hair to be wet!

Answer:
Have you tried back combing?
I find it gives my fine hair a heap of volume that lasts! You can't do it everyday as it would weaken your hair but its great for the weekends.
Just google backcoming or teasing and you will find a heap of tutorials .

Answer:
I have very fine hair but HEAPS of it and i find that backcoming, even with hairspray, doesnt really 'last' long
it just goes flat again
I've got shorter layers cut in because i big hair and itd be too heavy for all my hair to be made big, so the layers get it big, but even these dont last big for long with backcoming
havent found any hg products for volume on dry hair, have some ok ones on wet but even they arent true HG yet

Answer:
I find the same thing happens to me. My hair's very fine but there's quite a bit of it, and I love how it looks sometimes when it's been washed and dried naturally (but only sometimes. Other times, even when I thought I've done exactly the same thing as last time, it doesn't always come out right), but the minute I sleep on it, it just goes totally flat...but then sometimes it looks BETTER the next day, because sometimes after I wash it and it dries naturally, it's a bit frizzy, and so sleeping on it makes it soft, but not flat...
But yeah. I've tried things like sleeping in a ponytail, but that doesn't look good at all for me, as it just gives my hair a really bad, weird shape when I take it out...I also have tried clips, but they do nothing but leave an ugly indentation of the clip in my hair.
Has anyone tried dry shampoo for volume on dry hair? Does it work?

Answer:
Stevie, dry shampoo does make a bit of difference but only if your hair is flat because it's a bit oily. You could give it a try, having a bottle of dry shampoo around is handy in any case!
The most effective thing I've found it to put the hair around the top of your head up in big velcro rollers, spray it with hairspray and leave it that way while you do your makeup, then take it out and brush it (not too much cos the product will come out) into shape. It's a pretty annoying process though, so I was hoping there was a magical product that I could spray around my roots that would give me volume!

Answer:
This stuff is great - you just spray a little bit underneath any sections where you want some lift. You probably wouldn't want to use it every day though.

I got it at Petra a while ago - can't remember how much it cost as it lasts for ages.

Answer:
Thanks Dixiebelle!! That sounds perfect, I just ordered it from Fountain!

Answer:
aveda pure abundance hair potion!
its a dry powder that you apply (hold the bottle on top of your head and kinda gently squeeze out) to the roots, its kinda like a no-combing back comb!
once you apply the powder, you just rub the the hair (close to the roots), kinda roughly back and forth and it grows! i've found that it stays for ages as long as you don't apply too much (can get matted) and you can re-boof throughout the day!
its a bit exxy but the little bottle lasts for ages.

Answer:
yep ive used backcomb in a bottle....is great but can make your hair a bit :s and kinda greasy if you use too much...which i usually do because it doesnt last forever so i feel i have to respray
I have a few products from that brand, mostly good for a while but then my hair just goes flat again
