Hair colour SO much darker than it should be!
Question:
I already asked this question, but this is specifically about the hair colour result, not the finger skin being dyed by the stupid hair colour. I must be stupid. Yesterday I dyed my hair and it turned out pale orange blonde (I bleached it first and then put a dark blonde/light brown L’Oreal Preference shade over it – Dark Ash Blonde, to be precise, but sadly it wasn’t dark enough to get rid of the pale orange/blonde already left from the bleach), so today I had to fix it so bought MYHD in Dark Beige Blonde with developer 30. But horribly, the "dark beige blonde" came out almost BLACK on my hair! It wasn't as if my hair was dark before! Not in the slightest! It was way too light, which is why I didn't pick a lighter dye colour like I did yesterday. I didn’t want it to not do anything again...so I picked a slightly darker colour, but medium beige blonde...how can it come out purple/black!?!?!? Answer: OMG Stevie what are you gonna do?! everyone will think you're emo! Answer: I would never home colour my hair blonde for this reason... its just so risky and you run a huge risk of going yellow and brassy Answer: Originally Posted by stevie_23 I already asked this question, but this is specifically about the hair colour result, not the finger skin being dyed by the stupid hair colour. If it was dark, you may not have bleached it down to the right level. Perhaps you didn't leave it on long enough. Anything deeper than a 7, should not try and go blonde. You would have been better off getting foils in few shades of blonde and caramel. Now you will have to do the roots more often and blonde hair doesn't shine. Preference 7 dark blonde has a green base and it goes khaki on light hair. Having just bleached your hair, it would have been very porous. Putting a tint with 9% peroxide (Preference) over it, has made it even more porous so the medium beige blonde has grabbed the hair and gone too dark. I wouldn't put any more tints on it now. What is MYHD? Better to wash it with Selsun shampoo every day as this strips dyed hair gradually. Make sure you use a strong conditioner after it as it dries the hair. Use semis with no ammonia and remember that once you have tinted or bleached your hair, you need to use lighter colours as they all go dark from now on. You shouldn't have used vol 30 so soon after the previous tints. Beige blonde is a cool colour and because you bleached it, have removed the blue pigment and gone down to the red (orange) if you had left on longer, it would have stripped the red and gone down to the yellow. This is easier to tint over. I am afraid you will need to go to a salon to repair the damage and then after that, if you want to do yourself in the future, stick to shades 1 or 2 lighter or dark than your own colour. If you are going to go darker, you need to use a filler to put back red pigments before using a brown or you will get a green cast. Answer: Blondes can be tricky but after 2 eras of HD's doing a worse job than I ever did makes one wonder. stevie_23 always do a strand test. Carabel is right no more tints for a while & I personally would keep away from MYHD & with 30vol you are lucky your hair hasn't melted off.Lots of TLC is in order. I feel your misery I really do Answer: I would NEVER colour my own hair at home if I was a blonde. Answer: Thanks for that comment, Agent Provocateur. Very useful. And Beads & Bangles, it did say “dark”, yes, but dark BLONDE. That in my mind was safer than going for one of the browns, as even the Light Brown looked too dark for me. I am aware it said dark, however logically, dark blonde SHOULD still be lighter than light brown. Anyway, my natural hair colour is light ash brown, but it hasn’t been this colour for about 15 years I think…right now it is “naturally” a really pale orange/blonde (just from bleaching it previously in order to do basically what I was trying to do this time. It was too dark and reddish toned, and I wanted a lighter and more neutral/ash brown or dark blonde, so I bleached it in order to put over it another colour. Cause obviously I couldn’t just put the colour I wanted straight onto my hair when it was already too dark. At best it would’ve done nothing and probably would have made it even darker when added to the existing darker colour. This has always worked somewhat in the past), so I put MYHD Dark Beige Blonde (with 30 vol) on it, but for some reason it just went REALLY dark. It was quite odd how dark it went. Anyway, now I’ve used MYHD colour remover on it and it went back to a pale orange…and then I made the mistake of putting another dye over it…this time it was L’Oreal Preference Light Brown, as BEFORE the above dye job that went too dark, my hair had been the light orange/blonde shade from bleaching, and I put over it L’Oreal Preference Dark Ash Blonde, and it didn’t do a single thing…so I thought since the Light Brown is only ONE shade darker than this, it should do something but not be too dark. But NO. It’s now basically exactly as dark as it was before, after using the Dark Beige Blonde. Why is this happening!? Is my hair so damaged that it’s just sucking every single bit of dark colour from supposedly not dark hair dyes? Is it rebelling against my abuse towards it? LOL. Also, with the Light Brown dye, I left the top and front bits till last, as they seem to really go black (as opposed to the rest of my hair which just goes too dark brown) and get that yuck sort of “inky” look, if that makes any sense…so I only left it on for literally about 10 minutes, and yet it still did the same thing. So dark. L It’s quite baffling to me. And yes, I WOULD go to the hairdresser, but they never do what I want. It ALWAYS comes out way too dark for my liking and for what I’ve actually asked for. I know what I want. What I want hasn’t changed in the past 3 or so years, and yet I can’t get it, either by my own means or the HD (although to be honest, I’ve had more success when doing it myself. Just not this particular time) So yeah, I really don’t enjoy paying upwards of $200-$250 (supposed extra long hair, even though the longest layers are only just below shoulder level) for a too dark colour I have to “fix” myself anyway, that then fades to orange in 2-4 weeks. Oh, and yeah, my hair is REALLY dry now…not the underside bits, they’re fine, but the top parts and in particular the shorter layered bits, the ends are frizzled and all sort of crinkly. It’s not overly obvious but it feels bad when I run my fingers down it at the end. L I’m surprised my hair’s not fallen out actually. LOL. The only reason I used the vol 30 with the Dark Beige Blonde was cause I didn’t think 20 or 10 would be strong enough not to end up with a result like the one I got (too dark, not enough lift). Answer: For goodness sakes. Go. To. The. Hairdresser. I mean, honestly. Stop trying to fix it yourself because clearly you don't know how to (seeing you are not an HD) and get a professional to fix it! It's not baffling. You have damaged you hair and you have just mucked around with strong chemicals without knowing how they work or how to layer them. I never understand why people are shocked when bleaching at home doesn't turn out if they haven't done the correct research etc. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
