the all-in-one foundation thread! - Page 7
Question:
Thanks heaps Trixibella!
Are they similar foundations or are there differences?
Which is your fave? ( Im a Stila virgin )

Answer:
My favourite Stila foundation is the Illuminating Powder Foundation (it gets rave reviews on the boards!). I usually dust it over a tinted moisturiser (such as MAC's Select Tint) and it stops my t-zone shinies, evens out my skin tone without being cakey and matte.
The Illuminating Liquid foundation is also gorgeous for slightly more coverage, and it gives the skin a "dewy" look - kind of like the MAC Hyper real.
Another gorgeous Stila foundation is the Tinted Moisturiser, which is similar to the MAC Select Tint, but a bit thicker.
A good way to purchase them is to test them at Mecca, then order online through one of our Stila "contacts". Feel free to PM me for info

Answer:
stila illuminating liquid foundation (40watts)
coverage: medium
price: $88 (bit of a splurge but it lasts)
type of finish: dewy/slightly sparkley but doesn't go oily
recommended skin type: normal-dry
verdict?: it is very photogenic! it goes well with my stila foundation powder compact. i find it looks quite light when i put it on so i dust some stila sunlit bronzer on it which makes it look better.
mac liquid foundation (C40)
coverage: medium
price: hmm think its $42
type of finish: dewy
recommended skin type: combination
verdict? is great for summer as my skin is naturally darker in summer so this colour is perfect for it. makes it look glowy. a good daytime and nighttime coverage. needs good practice to apply evenly.
Px traceless foundation
coverage: very light
price: between $40 and $60, can't remember
type of finish: very natural
verdict? it doesn't have much coverage esp if you have blemishes. is kinda like a sheer base on your face. i definately need to use concealer with it. would be good for clear complexions.

QUESTIOn:
ive sorta recently only "discovered" makeup so sorry for asking stupid questions but..
what do u mean by "coverage"?
how many different "finishes" are there and what do they mean?
thank u

Answer:
Coverage I guess means how thick the makeup is...
Eg a Tinted Moisturiser is quite liquidy and therefore provides a low coverage (it just evens out skin tone a bit)
And a heaver coverage foundation would be thicker, and would provide a high coverage (you wouldnt be able to see freckles etc or any imperfections in the skin).
Hope that helps!
As for finish - usually is matte or dewy - Matte gives no shine off your face, dewy gives a bit of shine or glow.

Answer:
MAC Select Tint SPF 15
shade: NC30.
coverage: Light
price: 50 dollarsish
type of finish: dewy... very pretty!
recommended skin type: I think it goes well with any skin type and i have combination skin.
Opinion: I absolutely love this foundation! As i dont need much coverage for my skin, i love this light weight foundation as it evens out my skin tone, giving me that flawless, soft finish that i really love. I can just about say this is my HG foundation and i receive alot of compliments on it. I have an extra bottle my mum bought for me from the states haha, thats how much i love it

Answer:
MAC Studio Tech (NC27) // MAC Studio Fix (C3)
coverage: medium coverage; but you can apply less or more depending on what type of coverage or finish you are trying to achieve.
price: $56 (Studio Tech) $48 (Studio Fix)
type of finish: dewy / satin
recommended skin type: combination
verdict? Love them both. I use the studio tech with studio fix dusted over the top if i want full coverage. This is usually when im going out at night or just want to look luminous during the day. When i cant be bothered or just want light coverage, i usually just dust the studio fix on my face. TIP: Invest in a good foundation brush. I think this is one of the best investments i've made. You'll be suprised how much longer your foundation lasts and the effect it creates on your skin.

Answer:
MAC Select Foundation SPF - NW15
Coverage: I would have said medium but others say light - somewhere between the two I guess! Makes my skin appear flawless but doesn't completely disguise redness (I use a green concealer underneath).
Price: About $47
Finish: Satin - matte
Skin type: Most, probably not for super oily or super dry
Verdict: My HG for the moment. I have pink-based white skin and the NW15 matches perfectly. Will only dump if I find something that looks natural and covers redness!
MAC Select Tint NW20
Coverage: Very sheer
Price: Can't remember, sorry.
Finish: Dewy
Skin type: Anything other than oily.
Verdict: Don't use this much due to it not covering redness (see above)...if you have pretty good skin to begin with this would be a lovely foundation to 'polish' skin up a little.
Revlon Colourstay Natural - Ivory??
Coverage: Light - medium from memory
Price: About $34
Finish: Satin - matte
Skin type: Anything other than super dry.
Verdict: Used to love this but the colour was a bit too dark and yellow for my skin (and of course it was the palest!) so I gave it up in favour of the MAC Select SPF.
