STOMACH HELP
Question:
My stomach makes these gurgling noises all the time. When I eat, when
I dont eat, when Im relaxed, just whenever it feels like it. It is
embarrassing and I dont know what to do. I have tried many things to
make it stop. First I thought I was just hungry, so I ate something
and it didnt help. I have tried taking Tums and gasx and still
nothing. It happens at very unexpected times, I will be sitting in
class trying to learn when my stomach starts to make noises, and its
horrible. I cant seem to concentrate on anything during school
because Im scared the noises will start. I am afraid to attend any
outings with my friends in fear of my stomach making noises. I know
this isnt uncommon, but its still annoying. My diet is just fine
also, all I drink is water and i eat tons of fruit and vegetables.
Does anyone know of ways to stop the noises? Any home remedies or meds
I can get at the store? It would be a big help! Thanks!

Answer:
It's not the stomach itself that is the cause of the noise but the
contraction of your intestines as air moves through them. If you are
swallowing a lot of air this can happen or when you have a lot of gas.
Some foods cause more gas than others. Any food that is high in
soluble fiber, for instance, is only broken down by bacteria in the
large intestine, so that can mean more gas. You say that you eat tons
of vegetables...vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage,
brussels sprouts, onions, artichokes, and asparagus all cause excess
gas. Beans, Fruits like apples, pears, and peaches - whole grains,
like whole wheat and bran - sodas and fruit drinks, all cause
excessive gas also. Foods with sorbitol, often used as a sweetener in
sugar-free gums and candies can also aggrivate this condition. Fruits,
vegetables, and grains are important for digestion though, so don't
eliminate these healthy foods from your diet. You may just need to eat
a little less of them to ease your symptoms. Avoid anything that might
increase your chances of swallowing air, such as smoking, drinking
through straws, and eating too quickly. Consider keeping a food diary.
If you can't figure out what may be causing your increased gas, try
keeping a journal of what you eat. You may find one or two foods that
seem to increase your symptoms.

Answer:
Hey Guest, how are you doing? Sometimes, stomach growling or
rumbling can be a symptom of an underlying gastrointestinal disorder,
for example, irritable bowel syndrome. The thought, sight or smell of
food also can trigger this same response growling, rumbling and
gurgling from your intestines. The rumbles, gurgles and growls
you sometimes hear from your abdomen typically are due to normal
digestion. Hunger and appetite are controlled by a complex system of
hormone-like substances primarily made by your digestive system.
When you haven't eaten for a while, these substances are released and
cause a part of your brain called the hypothalamus to "switch on" your
desire to eat. This triggers muscle contractions and the release of
acids and other digestive fluids as your body prepares for you to eat
or hopefully eat. But in such cases, excessive abdominal noise
usually is accompanied by other symptoms such as bloating, cramping,
diarrhea or excess gas. Stomach growling can occur when you're hungry,
but it can also occur after eating or between meals when food is
passing through your intestines. Best wishes,
