itchy, burning, OUCH!
Question:
Hello,
I thought I had a yeast infection, but as it turns out, it's all external, so it appears it is not yeast. I have a lot of burning & itching that started at the clitoris & then spread to the entire external area. Ive never experienced this before & I went to my FNP & she felt it was because I was cleaning too often & became irritated from soap. I use Dove & have used it for year's. The only difference now is that I also sponge bathe after I work out, with a Dove facial cleanser. If I touch the area, it just itche's even more. There was a lot of external inflamation around the clitoris & now has subsided. The itching & burning are not constant as it was a few days ago & every day seems to be getting a little better. Im just confused because it seems like, just when I think its gone, it starts up a little bit. Especially when I start moving around & get warmed up., bedtime is always a little frustrating as it seems to get hot in that area,..maybe because I always lay on my side with my legs together. Ive tried putting a pillow between my knees to keep everything away from the area, but that's hard to do. My FNP gave me an ointment to use (triamcinolone 0.1%). And im not sure, but it seems like its actually more irritated when I use the cream. She said if it doesn't improve, that I should go see a dermatologist. Can you please tell me what the problem might be? Is it related to too much cleaning, in addition to heat?
Answer:
Did your FNP actually test you for a yeast infection or is she just assuming? It sounds like one to me. There are vaginal creams you can buy (over the counter) at any pharmacy or places like Wal Mart or K-Mart etc. Traimcinolone is used to treat fungal infections so if it's not working for you and actually irritating you more, then you need to stop using it. I wouldn't advise you to go to a Dermatologist. You need to see a Gynecologist. Also, Dove soaps are fragrant soaps. I love that soap too! However, you need to stay away from any soaps containing fragrance which can irritate you more. Ivory is ideal. Hope you feel better soon!
Answer:
Hello,

My problem seems to have gone away & the test results for yeast came back negative..which I figured since it was all external around the clitoris. Im wondering if maybe this entire problem was due to hormones (?) im 42 yrs old & in the last year have experienced irregular periods. Anywhere from 3-4 day's early. Im wondering if I should go see a specialist..and if so, what kind. My husband & have been trying, for the last 1 1/2 yrs to get pregnant, with no success. Could the clitoral irritation & irregular period's have anything to do with each other..as well as not getting pregnant? Im so confused!
Answer:
It sounds like a good idea to see another doctor, yes. You really need to get some answers.

Answer:
A Gynecologist.
