pain in penis
Question:
I am 15 years old, I just recently started cleaning the smegma off my penis. The past couple days my penis has been hurting me. It does not hurt too much and it does not hurt always. It is ocasional and random. Also when cleaning my smegma I just noticed some hair under my foreskin. I am not sure if it is growing or not. when I tried to pull it, it hurt a little. I am not sure if the hair is growing or is stuck under some smegma. Could the hair have anything to do with the Pain. If anyone has any idea please write.

Answer:
Hey worried, how are you doing?

Only the usual cleaning, without forceful retraction of the foreskin is necessary. If a phimosis,(congenital or acquired) is causing urinary obstruction, hematuria, or preputial pain, referral to a urologist is necessary to perform circumcision or preputioplasty.

Smegma represents desquamated epithelial cells trapped between the glans and foreskin, and it should be gently wiped away. The production of smegma is a natural process that leads to normal separation of the glans from the foreskin as the child matures.

In its fresh state, smegma is a wholesome and functional lubricant. But, if allowed to accumulate in the foreskin cavity, it becomes changed into an unpleasant, unhealthy, and bad-smelling substance.

Without correct treatment, ill health of the foreskin is liable to worsen - formation of smegma continues and, without outlet or access for cleaning, deposits collect and harden within the foreskin cavity. Such compact masses of smegma can lead to chronic disease, and even prepare the way for cancerous changes.

Benign lesions include pearly penile papules, hirsute papillomas, and coronal papillae. These lesions do not require treatment and are usually found on the glans in uncircumcised males.

Terms
phi·mo·sis - tightness or constriction of the orifice of the prepuce arising either congenitally or from inflammation, congestion, or other postnatal causes and making it impossible to bare the glans

hir·sute pap·il·lo·ma - very hairy, benign tumor (as a wart or condyloma) resulting from an overgrowth of epithelial tissue on papillae of vascularized connective tissue (as of the skin)

pre·pu·tial - of, relating to, or being a prepuce (foreskin)
