Answer:
Hey Guest, how are you doing?

Microscopy and culture of skin swabs and scrapings aid
in the diagnosis of candidal infections. However, candida may also secondarily infect an underlying disorder such as
or
and can live on a mucosal surface quite harmlessly. (DermNet Oral candidiasis)

Candida may arise suddenly as an acute infection or persist for long periods as a chronic infection. Severe infections may extend down the throat (oesophageal infection). (DermNet Oral candidiasis)

Nevertheless, oral candidiasis is often known as "thrush" because its white spots resemble the breast of the bird with the same name. Present in 50% of healthy mouths, it causes infection (candidiasis) when increased numbers of yeast cells invade the mucosa (the name for the moist skin inside body openings). (DermNet Oral candidiasis)

The usual organism is Candida albicans, but C. tropicalis is sometimes responsible. (DermNet Oral candidiasis) Antifungal treatment may be necessary for the treatment of candidiasis. (Scully Candidiasis, Mucosal)

Diazoles (eg, ketoconazole, miconazole) have more effect on mammalian cytochromes than do triazoles (eg, fluconazole, itraconazole) and tend to have more severe adverse effects. None of the azoles are entirely benign. (Scully Candidiasis, Mucosal)

Hepatotoxicity may be common to all of them, and the potential for endocrine toxicities exists, particularly at high doses. As with any new agent, novel toxicities may be discovered. (Scully Candidiasis, Mucosal)

Consult with a Pharmacist about least expensive generic oral antifungal agents and a new triazole, D0870 (Voriconazole) which has activity against fluconazole-resistant C albicans. Itraconazole also is effective as a cyclodextrin solution in patients with fluconazole-resistant candidosis. (Scully Candidiasis, Mucosal)
