Kidney Stone
Question:
This past tuesday i woke up with a horrible pain in my lower, left
side, back...then it slowly moved ot the left side and the left front.
Lookingo n the internet I fidured out that it was probably a kidney
stone, but since i wasn't sure, i took 3 motrin and within 5 minutes,
the pain was gone....this was about 6 AM. I stayed home just in case
it acted up again...which it didn't. But around 8PM I passed the stone
(the internet RULES). Anyway...my question...since i passed the
stone, should i bother to go see a doctor or should i be fine?

Answer:
Hey jeffcravener, how are you doing? There is every likelyhood that
if one stone has formed, the tendency exsits and other stones will
form as well. Lack of treatment can result in total urine surperssion,
which, if not relieved, will cause death. To begin to locate a
stone, doctors may perform an x-ray or ultrasound study. The stone
should be analized - basically most stone are of calcium compounds,
either oxalates (two thirds) or uric acid crystals (a small
percentage). You must cut down on foods high in calcium,
particualarly milk and milk products, vitamin D and vitamin
D-fortified foods (indicated on the food package), and even calcium
antacids. Stones of the calcium oxalate variety require a diet that
include daily intake of pyrikoxine (vitamin B complex) and excludes
such high oxalate foods such as cocoa, chocolate, celery, cabbage,
spinach, tomatos, and rhubarb. Small stone without complications
should be treated conservatively by trying to induce the stone to pass
into the urine and out. To accomplich this, large amounts of fluids,
three or more quarts or more daily, antispasmodic medication, and
morphine to control pain. When the stone is too large to pass and
begins to provoke complications - infection, severe bleeding,
hydronephrosis, and blockage of the ureter - surgical removal may be
necessary. The complications must be treated simultaneously;
infections controlled; and immobilized patient kept in some form of
physical movement and on a diet instituted to avoid further
inlargement and development of stones. Best wishes,

Have you got better Sir :)

Answer:
A Greek Orthodox priest who had kidney stones diagnosed, did the
following. He picked dandelions, boiled them and drank the liquid with
lemon juice (to kill the taste!). He then was able to pass the stones
in the urine - obviously they were small ones! Why not give this a
try - it can't hurt you.
