Ongoing fever
Question:
I first started having a little pain on my left side groin area when
standing too long. Did,nt think much of it untill I started getting
fevers, and just plain run down. Went to the doctor. they did a blood
test and urine test which only showed slight blood in the urine. Sent
home with some antibiotics even though it showed I hade no infection.
After being home with a fever for a couple more days went back and had
a CT scan of my abdomin. Everything looked good. They said it sounds
like I just have the flu, and was sent home. One day I think all is
over because I have no fever and the next morning the fever is back
all day. Symtoms are Fever up to 102.3 but normally 101, dizzy, eyes
hurt, very weak, run out of breath doing easy stuff. and just recently
started getting this itchy rash on my back. This does not feel like
the flu, and has been going on for two weeks now. Any suggestions.

Answer:
Hey Wayne, how are you doing? The proper antibiotic, determined by
the infecting organism and its sensitivity, is life saving medication
and should be continued for about a month or longer. Without
antibiotic theraphy the disease is fatal. When a fever can't be
explained, endocarditis should be suspected. Later there is pain in
the chest and irregular heartbeat. The fever is intermittent but
usually reaches a daily peak of 103 degrees. Chills, pain in the
joints, and worsening anemia exacerbates fatigue and loss of appetite.
Small red or purplish spots break out all over the body. Thin red
lines show up under fingernails and toenails; and palms and soles have
large discolored blotches. Bed rest is absolutely essential with no
activity during the acute stage. If the disease persists, it can
develope into congestive heart failure, intense anemia, cerebral or
pulmonary embolism, or kidney failure -- all of which can be fatal.
A bacterial infecxtion, usually either strep or staph, of the
protective inner linings of the heart chambers, mostly in the heart
valve, endocarditis may be participated by a tooth extraction or any
surgery of the mouth or of the urinary tract. The basic cause is blood
poisioning. The disease can recur. Patients should be watched for
some months after recovery and the heart checked repeatedly during
this time. Best wishes,

Answer:
Did they perform a CT of the Pelvis as well? The symptoms you are
describing are not typical of the flu. You need further work up. I
would see another doctor if you cannot get satisfaction within a
reasonable amount of time here. Going around with a higher fever like
this is not healthy. It is a sign of infection, trauma or inflammation
of some sort and because it is coming and going, your body is reacting
to it, trying to fight it. See a doctor again, today.
