I prefer shopping at the local street markets or thieves market & please avoid Chatuchak Market by all costs.
Try to travel by subways or tuk-tuks. Cabs over there are expensive they go one big round to reach your destinations.

for first timers its alright to go Chatuchak just for the experience to walk walk & see the largest weekend market.
but for me I think the prices are overpriced cause it has become a tourist attraction now, not like in the past where it is a local market.
There's even tram rides there, imagine. lol
I prefer Bo-Bay market, or up southern Bangkok. things are preferably cheap.
saw a mickey mouse mug at bo-bay for 100 bahts, I thought was too expensive,
went back to Pat Prong & saw the same one selling for 560 bahts!!!!!
