but seriously, backpacking is .. budget form of travelling.
maybe $2000 is abit too much, minus away all the airflights,
left $1000, its still alot lehz..

Since you mentioned tibet, then i guess nepal and mongolia might be your choices too. Frankly speaking, $ 2000 can't really get you there. Transport alone will swallow most of your budget, perhaps more! Really.
For $ 2000, perhaps take a look at china or 2-3 weeks in australia.
