hk disneyland open already anot?
anyway if you can then go to the peak (shan deng in cantonese) to drool at the millionaires' houses...

Answer:

Hongkong:
1. Causeway Bay, MongKok, TsimShaTsui are main places to go
2. Take the MTR gets u to everywhere. but before that
BUY THE OCTOPUS CARD
(hk ezlink). bus routes are messy. u can get no where.
taxi wise. ok la. but sometimes not worth it.
to try sth traditional. take the Tram but only avail on hk island.
also u can try the ferry. frm wanchai to tsimshatsui. but if u not sure how to.then dont.
3. good food's EVERYWHERE. try everysingle roadside stores. but then again. to hkers, the dirtiest stores are the best. see whether u can take it or not.
e.g curry fishballs. some egg pancake-like thing. all those deepfried stuff. etc
4. hmm. be bold. be careful. pickpocketers yes. thiefts yes. but they are in everycountries. main language is Cantonese. but Mandarin and English are welcome. though not too much of english. u can always try ur luck!
Taiwan. (taipei)
1. Taipei 101. Newyork newyork. XiMenDing. Shilin ye shi
2. Taxi fares arent tt bad in tp. u can try their trains oso la.
3. good food's everyone in tp oso. but there's lots in ximending. shilin ye shi.
its the typical ru rou fan. duck tongues. pinapple tarts. pepper bun. alot.
4. Mandarin are widely spoken. they take Hokkien too. but its always the case no matter how flawless ur mandarin is. they will know for sure ure not taiwanese. but taiwanese are very nice and helpful
Cynic. hk disney is opening on 12 September 2005

Answer:

thank all of you for the advise... really confused on where to go and what to do will try to follow the places that you have mentioned... but one problem though... i don't speak cantonese.. looks like i'll be going to HK to get "slaughtered"

Answer:

its just like in singapore. we speak english generally. but we can speak dialects.

Answer:

Im planning to go hk this sept for shopping n visit disneyland. Can any hk regulars here tell me where r the affordable shopping places or not? or rather i should ask, can categorise the shopping malls u know of, in terms of expenditure level? thanks!

Answer:

wad do u mean by expenditure level?
what are the things u looking for?
basically. nothing in hk is expensive. just dont go to landmark, International Finance Centre, Admiralty Plaze (sth like tt). haha. tts where all the prada.gucci.chanel.dior situates.
(and these are all within Central and/or Admiralty MRT station)
mongkok is the cheapest place. cos items are imported frm china but the most dangerous la.
jordan, tsimshatsui is the more expensive but classy side of kowloon island.
causeway bay is the more classy side of hk island. but things are slightly more expensive. cos some items are imported frm places like japan. korea. at times china. but high quality things.
tts for clothes, shoes, bags etc
for computer softwares, hardwares.
there's lots of places to get them frm. sum shui po, wanchai etc

Answer:

anyone knows what the temperature will be like during the end of may for taipei and HK??

Answer:

i think it will be to the warmer in the month of May JUne July ba..

Answer:

er.. its near summer la. so about 20 odd deg. in worse cases. bring tshirts and a windbreaker. tt will be sufficient

Answer:

Learn some cantonese. Might be useful when comes to bargaining. hehe

Answer:

our slang will make it worse

Answer:

There are some excellent disco at tsim sha tsui....

Answer:

just say pieng d la. pieng d la. (cheaper cheaper)

Answer:

U should visit hongkong on the colder months.. Like Nov/Dec..

Answer:

Spring is cooling too. But their clothes range are more to winter side. U can take the opportunity to buy their winter stuff and boots coz its cheap!
I find that there is not a need to learn cantonese coz they can speak and understand simple mandarin too.
