RE: Anyone interested to backpack to USA?
Question:
I am planning my trip to USA in late May or early June. I plan to start with East side of US, then slowly move to west side of US. In fact, the whole trip is still planning... Now I am looking for people to join me in this trip, anyone? If can't join me in this trip, maybe someone could share his or her US trip with me... Would like to know more about US (any parts also can)... Any is it easy to work part-time there? Care to share?

Answer:

Answer:

Wow....backpacking to US? You have no idea of the distance btw here and US do you?

Answer:

are u in some tertiary institutions? maybe can join work and travel?

Answer:

I do know... life is short... the length and width of life would depends on what you do to it and of course at times needs guts and courage!

Answer:

Why Aust? Cos you love water sports? or friends over there? a lot of my friends chose Aust too. But I found that too many singaporeans in Aust.

Answer:

act i like wakeboarding, n aus the scenery there is great esp Tasmania

Answer:

Currently I am working! Had left school for a while already.. used to do my intership overseas... that is why get out of singapore had always been in head... I love the feelings to be aboard.... the feelings of learning the lifestyles of people and different cultures is great!

Answer:

How long are you setting aside for this trip? 3 months?

Answer:

I really don't know... Maybe after 2 weeks, I might not be able to take it, maybe a month or even longer like 6 months... In fact, kind of indefinte but I would not be expecting to find someone to travel in the same matter as me... We can plan together for the first 3 months then I might continue on my own, or u can join me in between...

Answer:

you make it sound as though US seems really small.

Answer:

hmm... if u don't stop at a plc for too long, think can rch the west coast at least a month ba......

Answer:

Its better to rent a car... Avis or Hertz r the most economic choices. A mid saloon like Mitsubishi Lancer (in US its cal Mirage) probably cost abt US$35 per day (plus insurance). If u wan brand new flashy convertible (eg Mitsubishi Eclipse GT) is abt US$70 per day (plus insurance). Tink book frm online cheaper.

Answer:

I will say you should get to work immediately. Finalise the planning and confirm everything at least 2 months before. The reason is to get early bird discounts on the net in everything you gonna do in the states. You can get car rental at USD 90 plus for a full size car for 5 days if you book a month ahead. And flight at half the price, even through AA. And good hotel rates.
i backpacked in california for a month back in nov 2004. Been to LA, SF, las vegas, san diego and mexico along the way. Some i booked a tour there while some i travelled on my own.
I may be of help if you wanna know anything. But did not keep those contact on the net, i googled them randomly anyway. I'll go dig if i still have those receipts or any hardcopy left, and send you if i do have.

Answer:

heh, pretty tough deal i would say

Answer:

must it be the states? lol in fact theres a great deal of places that offers you much more exposure and experience as compared to the states, one such example is europe... asia is in fact another of such places... backpacking through japan, korea, china, nepal or even russia is certainly one of the more popular spots for backpackers nowadays... i've even heard of backpackers from SG who went all the way to europe from sg through china and russia

Answer:

No.. just go where you wanted to go, not where other people like to go. People who like korea will ask you why go japan. Another will say why vietnam when there's cambodia and laos. Yet another will ask why melbourne when you should be in tasmania, or even europe. Some will even say go thailand instead of singapore. Get what i mean?
And is kinda funny to say other places offer much more exposure and experience than the States or any place for the matter. Is so different what you gonna go through in each place.
Of course to offer her another choice is not entirely bad, either. But share the pointers also, at least. Not just more popular.
Cheers!

Answer:

i'm simply offering her alternatives that are popular choices nowadays, and i've been to the states quite a number of times, and it certainly did not give me as much of a cultural experience as compared to locations in europe or even asia, i'm merely speaking from experience.
