actually there are a lot of reasons. too many to list. i think the most important one is since basketball was first played by the chinese and the malays associate basketball with the chinese. Also everyone assumes that u have to be tall to play basketball. this turns off many people.
btw not all malays hate to play basketball. im part malay and i love the game. i know a couple of malays too who are playing even one former national team player. i still play soccer though.

they are a cool bunch and i like them, just playing around and making leisure everyday. they are living the life that chinese can't because all they think of is money and what 'hardwork pays the dues' those kinda shit.
and of course there are malays who are good in studies and believes in live a better quality life in terms of material needs.
