Soccer: Young Lions beat Geylang United 4-0 in S.League match
SINGAPORE : The juggernaut that is the Young Lions just keeps rolling on with no one apparently looking capable of stopping them.
And they just keep winning, even when they are not playing well it seems, especially when they are playing at home.
On Friday night at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Fandi Ahmad's team handed out a 4-0 whipping to struggling Geylang United, to further consolidate their lead at the top of the NTUC Income-Yeo's S-League table.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, the Eagles actually tried to make a game of it early on. They defended in numbers for the first 15 minutes and could even have taken the lead through a vicious Boyko Simeonov free-kick, but for the intervention of the woodwork.
The home side then took the lead with their first real chance of the match through left-winger Syed Thaha off a quick counter-attack on 32 minutes.
The visitors were forced to play a more open game after the break and that led to their downfall as the Young Lions' dangerous attackers exploited the new found space in the Geylang defence.
Further goals from top scorer Qiu Li (66th minute) and Shi Jiayi (71st minute) put the result beyond doubt with almost 20 minutes remaining.
A minute from time, Hassan Sunny misjudged a cross from the left by man-of-the-match Thaha to hand substitute Fazrul Nawaz the simplest of headed goals, to complete Geylang's misery
