Sissoko's eye might be blind...
Question:
DOCTORS fear that Mohammed Sissoko could lose the sight in his right eye after suffering horrific damage to his retina.
The Liverpool midfielder took a sickening kick to the face during the Champions' League clash with Benfica and was rushed to hospital.
Overnight checks in the Portugal hospital showed that the Mali international had suffered what is thought to be a severe tear in the retina. Sissoko is facing a long absence from the game, at least, and the worst case scenario is that the injury is career-threatening.
The doctors in Portugal fear for his sight and Liverpool will now wait for a second opinion from a specialist on Merseyside, before deciding the best course of action.
The club doctor, who stayed with Sissoko in a hospital in Lisbon on Tuesday night, is hoping that an operation to repair the hole in the retina will at least restore some of the player's vision.
Sissoko has already had one operation to repair damage to his retina, when he was in France with Auxerre. Now he faces tricky surgery for a second time.
