beckham works hard? just how hard when all he does is cross and take free kicks? he is just wayang. opponent snatches the ball away from him, he doesn't really make an effort to win the ball back (because he can't freaking tackle or run fast). he only wayangs by jogging slowly to backtrack which serves no freaking purpose.

i rate becks as a player, i really do. his passing and crossing can make the difference... but as a captain? i dunno man. i definitely agree that terry would make a better captain... and this is a chelski-hating united fan speaking.
robson may not be an excellent manager, but that doesn't mean he isn't an expert on top-level football. being a crap manager doesn't mean he hasn't the ability to tell the difference between a true leader and one who isn't really that good at leading.
perhaps i'm biased though - i've always felt that a captain should be either a central defender or a central midfielder. didn't agree with shearer being captain either, but that's just me.

Beckham seem has a very soft personality but no doubt he's a model professional. he leads by example not leading by barking at his teammates like Oliver Kahn does.
There are 2 type of leaders.
1) Dominant - excersing his power over his teammates like Oliver Kahn, Alan Shearer, John Terry, ROy Keane
2) Inspiring - Lead by example like David Beckam, Del Piero, Nedved
As for Steven Gerrard, he quite on both sides. He quite dominant at times but he always inspire his teammates with his performance

Exercising power, eh? It's not the army where the PC barks his platoon around. Kahn and co. have the respect of their teammates, they trust in their judgment, and therefore listens to them willingly.
You can give anyone the armband and they can exercise their power for all they want, but will their teammates listen? They are all thinking adults, not kids that are easily pushed around.
