EXCLUSIVE: Leeds reject Liverpool bid
25.05.2002
Leeds have rejected a £14.8M bid from Liverpool for midfielder Lee Bowyer.
Bowyer was transfer listed two days ago after refusing the latest contract offered to him by Leeds.
The 25-year old has only one year left of his contract and Leeds are keen to cash in on him before he leaves for nothing when his contract expires.
Liverpool's offer of £14.8M wasn't enough for Leeds to let one of their best players go to one of their Premiership rivals though.

Ferdinand on Red Devils' sights
2002-05-25
LEEDS, May 25 - Leeds United defender Rio Ferdinand says he is "flattered" by reports linking him with a move to Manchchester United. However, the England defender insists he is focusing solely on the World Cup. Ferdinand joined Leeds in an £18m move from West Ham in November 2000.
United would have to pay considerably more than that to tempt Leeds to part company with the central defender, and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be planning a £25m bid.
But Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale insisted no bid has been tabled and said the story was the result of summer gossip.
Ridsdale said, "This shows the silly season is really upon us. Absolutely no contact has been made between us and Manchester United, or any other club, regarding Rio Ferdinand. The bottom line is we are not building a team here for anyone else to take their pick from. We are building a team around Rio and he is not for sale at any price. He is not one of the players we would entertain letting go."
Ferdinand, preparing for England's final World Cup warm-up match against Cameroon in Kobe on Sunday, is oblivious to the transfer talk.
Ferdinand said, "We don't see the papers out here but I have spoken to people on the phone back home and they have said what is happening. I'm not thinking about anything like that back home at all. Of course, it is flattering when any club shows an interest in you, but my main objective is to come out here and do well for England and that's what I'm preparing for. I am 100% focused on doing my job with England. We have come away, the season has finished domestically, and this is the time to prepare for England duty."
