Show Down...Devils vs Gunners
Question:
Hey pplz, this will be my second article here. Pls feel free to comment, and guys, make ur predictions here!
It dosen't really get bigger than this...for it has been the fixture that has decided the title in the past few seasons. Come this Saturday, 7 Dec 2002, all hell will break loose. It's Manchester United vs Arsenal, two glorious teams with glorious histories behind them.
Why is this a big match? Well, it will go down to the teams of course. How good are the teams? Let's just put it this way-these are the 2 teams that have been taking turns to win the Premier League Title for the last 6 years. So big are the teams that, if Osama were to crash a plane into Old Trafford on Sat, England, France, Cameroon, South Africa, Ukraine, Brazil, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Nigeria, Ireland(Both Republic & Northern), Argentina, Wales and Uraguay will all loose their bests players. Enough said.
Last year, Manchester United stop short of becoming the laughing stock of English football, when Arsenal won the Premiership in their own Theatre of Dreams as they go 0-1 down to the Gunners. the only reson they didn't really became a total laughing stock was due to the fact that Arsenal played some scintillating football. So mesmorising that people forgot about laughing at the battled Devils. Man Utd went on to finsh 3rd that season.
But it is now a diffrent Man Utd that we are looking at now. It looks like they are hitting the richest of form right now, at the right time. All the last 3 wins they've had in the last 3 games had been against big sides: Newcastle, Basle and Liverpool. 10 goals were scored in between them, and this is done amazingly without influcential players like Keane, Beckham and Nicky Butt, even Veron was missing in some of the games. Credit has to go done to the work of the "2nd string" members of the squad. O'Shea came in and played as though he was Blanc(when he was younger of course!), Forture holding play well in the middle, and Solskjear now even terrorising opposing left full backs after beging switch to the right midfield. But above them all, is the goalscoring exploits of RRRUUUUUDDD Van Nistelrooij. He just was always in the right place at the right time. He's only been here for a season before this, and trust me, Man Utd are already taking his measurements for a statue. Yes, he is already demanding lengend status wif his goals. He will surely be the main man to watch for.
Good news for Utd is that Roy Keane is already been released from hell....okok...return from injury and is in contention for a place. But Beckham & Butt will surely be out.
On the other hand, Arsenal has just carried on from where they left off last season, tearing their opponents apart, but they did have a blip during October where they lost 4 games. But seriously, Arsenal in those loses real the better football, only that they couldn't finsh off their opponents with the crazy amount of chances they had. Sir Alex did also mentioned that his team was having a blip last season after a few games, but he wasn't to know that that's actually an indication of the falling of the Man Utd Empire. He is still claiming blips when his team is losing now.
Arsenal's blip looks to be over now, with really impressive wins of late. Unlike Man Utd, Arsenal don't seemed to have distinct differentiation between 1st and 2nd team. The squad depth is so good that all the players can easily walk into the team & do the job. Cygan came in to replace Keown but he played like as though he has played with Arsenal forever. Ljungberg, Pires & Wiltord took turns to run rings around defenders on the wings. An awesome squad that Arsene Wenger has assembled over the years.
But the King of the awesomes will still be Thierry Henry.Forget about Van Nistelrooij, Henry is the complete striker, and above all, a complete footballer. He might not have the positional sense that Ruud has, but his finishing, is definetely on par, or even better than the dutchman. Henry's main asset will have to be his unassailable pace, with or without the ball. I have not seen anyone in on the planet catching him in a sprint, once he has the lead. He also has the abilty to see things, like a Zidane or Aimar to launch attacks, with his passing, which is also of high quality.
Another edge he has over Ruud, is that he contributes to the team all the time. Ruud only plays well when his team mates does so,because he is a striker that needs gd services. Without that, he can't score, and when he can't score, Man Utd can't play well. But for Henry, his presence and work ethics are top class. He did had a goal drought earlier, but when not scoring, he still drops deep to create chance for his team-mates, like when against Newcastle, it was his cheeky lean-one-side-and-pass-the-other skil which sent Luzhny free to lay the ball on for Wiltord to pass the ball into the open net. And the biggest problem is, you just cannot mark him. You mark him in the centre, he'll pull u wide and let the team-mates pour down the centre; u mark him on the wings, the same thing is gonna happen down the centre.
Henry has also scored in each of the last 3 encounters against Man Utd, Van Nistelrooij...dear me...hasn't even have a shot on goal against Arsenal.
Well, it's all on paper here. What do u think will happened tomorrow? your guess is as good as mine. But I just keep having this smell on Gun-powder........
Prediction: Man Utd 1-2 Arsenal
cheers!
