Robson in line for knighthood: report
Question:
LONDON, June 12 (AFP) - Bobby Robson, the doyen of English managers, is set to receive a knighthood in the next Queen's Honours' List, according to an agency report here on Wednesday. Robson, the Newcastle United manager, masterminded England's 1990 World Cup campaign, his Gary Lineker-skippered side reaching the semi-finals where they lost to Germany on penalties. The editor of the Newcastle fans' website Kev Fletcher told the Press Association that the 69-year-old's honour would be made official this weekend. Fletcher told the agency: "I would rather not say where this has come from, but it is going to happen this weekend. It will be confirmed and I am 110 percent sure. This is not rumour, this is fact." After his spell as England manager Robson then enjoyed successful stints with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona in Spain. He returned to his native north-east when Ruud Gullit resigned as manager of Newcastle United in 1999 and since then has turned the club around, bringing Champions League football to St James' Park next season. Robson, the son of a coal miner, was born in Sacriston, County Durham, one of five brothers. He was capped 20 times for England, scoring four goals, and played for Fulham and West Brom.
