the ultimate humiliation....S'pore 0-4 M'sia
Question:
We have always,as a Liverpool fan, laugh at Everton aft a Merseyside win,or as Man Utd fans, be on cloud nine aft a win over man city. On 18 Dec 2002, we, Singaporean football fans, finally had the feeling of a derby match...oh ya, a lost derby match. Pre-match indication looks bright on paper for Singapore, we've had got news that 2 foreign born players will be playing for us, allowing some people to claim that this is "the best Singapore team since our glory Malaysia Cup days in 1994". Even the bookmakers installed S'pore as favourites. But wat we saw on the nite itself, will remind us that that particular piece of paper should be burnt. To lose 1-0 against Malaysia at home would already be bad enough, so i'll let ur imagination to run to think how horrible it'll be to lose 4-0.At home. Prior to the match, Sinpapore oni managed to beat minows Phillipines 2-0,prompting the media to lambast the performance, and rightly so too. The Singapore coach then complaint abt the lack of support given to the team. So,even though not guilty, the press put up big coverage n build-up for the match against M'sia, the day before, with headings like: Let's hear the Kallang Roar...Back the lions...etc. So, as if buddah grants a devoter's wish, 40,000 screaming fans turn up at the stadium, ani swear to u none of them were holding their S'pore pools Betting slip. But wat happened next realli prompt the fans to leave the stadium early, and oh, those punters, if there r any, to tear their slips. only abt 100 M'sia fans travelled south to attend the match, but their Kedah roar in the end still sunk our 40,000-strong "kallang" roar. Pride has to be swallowed down...in other words...MALU!Even as i was on my way home on a SBS bus, the other fans on board jeered the S'pore team when the results were announce thru the TV mobile news. However, imagine how hard this is gonna affect our youngsters, or more broadly, their possible career? Would ,as a parent, still believe ur son can make it far as a footballer in s'pore in the future??So dare me to say,n SAY OUT LOUD, that that abysmal performance not only destroyed important pride, but thousands of future footballing careers will go down the drain as well! I can tell u that i know that this is what most of the footballing powerhouse think when they step on the pitch, with all aspects of the nation's future in their mind, and of course, pride. Our Lions played without any pride, so bad that ani 11 persons frm the 40,000 crowd can better them. I personally cannot accept such a performance from my own national team. I realli don't wish to say this, but yday's performance, IF SINGAPORE CAN GET INTO THE WORLD CUP ANYTIME SOON, MALAYSIA WOULD WIN THAT PARTICULAR WORLD CUP...AND THAILAND WOULD HAVE ALREADY WON THE WORLD CUP...TWICE! Pls feel free to stae ur comments,be it supporting the lions, or u wanna whack them.:angryfire Answer: We have always,as a Liverpool fan, laugh at Everton aft a Merseyside win,or as Man Utd fans, be on cloud nine aft a win over man city.
