orap used for treatment of tourettes
Question:
My daughter was prescribed orap today by a neurologist for her tics
related to tourettes syndrome. I am scared to let her take it after
reading on the net all the side effects. Could someone that knows
anything about this drug please let me know your experience with
taking it for this problem... She is on catapress patches right now
and it just is not working as well as it use to. Thank You for your
help!!!

Answer:
Hey worriedmom2, how are you doing?

The dose used is substantially lower than the dose used to treat psychosis. If severe tics are the
presenting symptom, a newer antipsychotic agent may be the best initial treatment.

Clonidine may be the most widely used, while habit reversal therapy likely has the lowest risk of serious adverse effect. If tics are mild to moderate in severity or if they occur in risk-averse patients, any of the non-antipsychotic treatments described in Medical Care can be tried sequentially.
