warfarin
Question:
I have been on warfarin 15mg for 5 year and have now gone off the medication because I never had any energy whist I was on it . My energy level has sky rocketed and I feel great. I have noticed no changes at all in my body as far as clotting goesor stiffness. can someone tell me the side effects of going off the warfarin .... as my life has really picked being off it . Answer: Hey Anonymous, how are you doing? Patients on full dose warfarin are at risk of significant hemorrhage at the time of surgery, therefore reversal is required. In certain cases (e.g., mechanical valves), if no anticoagulant therapy is used even for a short period, there is high risk for thrombosis. The following suggestion should be discussed with surgery. Discontinue warfarin 72 hours prior to surgery. For excellent patient education resources, visit eMedicine's , , . Also, see eMedicine's patient education articles , , , , , and . Best wishes, Answer: PLEASE let your doctor know that you have discontinued the Coumadin. My husband was on it for 18 years and didn't feel lethargic from it. My neighbor, 68 yrs old, did what you did. Decided to go off it on his own....within a month, he had pulmonary thrombosis...he's no longer with us.
