rythmol
Question:
About 4 weeks ago I was put on rythmol sr for v-tach. I have a
pacemaker for brady...I guess my heart cant decide...I am 40 years old
otherwise healthy. Since i have been on it...I am tired alot and have
slowly started gaining weight? About 5 pounds in 4 weeks...this is
alot for me. I have been the same weight for over 7 years.... Plus,
my hands are swelling...like the skin is too tight for my hands...
Are these side effects for the medication? My cardiologist says no.
but the drug is new and he doesnt have alot of patients on it yet.
If anyone has any input for me, i'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Answer:
Hey margaret, how are you doing?

Side effects of propafenone that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible are chest pain, palpitations, fever or chills, shortness of breath, swelling of feet or legs, and trembling or shaking. Side effects that usually do not require medical attention
(report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome are blurred vision, changes in taste (a metallic or bitter taste), constipation or diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, nausea or vomiting, and tiredness or weakness.

Best wishes,

Answer:
Margaret - The fatigue could be considered to be a side effect from
taking the Rythmol, but not the weight gain. The swelling of your
hands etc. is an indication of your heart condition/problem. It's good
that you made your cardiologist aware of this change - keep him aware
of ALL changes, even when minor. Because this weight gain isn't normal
for you, you really do need to find an answer and solution. I think
you need to be persistant about further work up. I would talk with the
cardiologist about it again and make an appt. with your family doctor
as well so that other problems can be ruled out.
