side effects of antibiotics, specifically Gentamicine
Question:
I've been under doctor's care because of endocarditis, a potentially
deadly infection of the heart. The usual medication is a combination
of penicillin and gentamicin. The gentamicin has potential side
effects that include damage to the kidneys, damage to both the inner
and outer ear. I am experiencing some kind of dizziness and my
balance is out of kilter. My question are: Are these temporary
conditions? How long do they last?

Answer:
Hey guest, how are you doing?

You may get dizzy or have trouble keeping your balance; until you know how gentamicin affects you, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires mental alertness. Call your prescriber or health care professional if you get any of these serious side effects.

Be aware that for some weeks after you finish a course of gentamicin you can still get side
effects. The identification of disturbance in renal function can only be made by carrying out biochemical tests.

Best wishes,
