triple antibiotic ointment skin appication and eye problems
Question:
hi. my cat has a bad skin condition, and i applied generic t.a.o. for
about one week nearly daily, really working it in so it would get down
to his skin beneath all the fur. since thrusday/friday, mar 10/11, my
left eye has become seriously blurry! nonstop! my eye doctor was
phoned. he thinks it's a sinus infection complication from my
several-day-long cold with bad sore throat. i didn't mentiion my use
of the t.a.o. on the cat. what does anyone think? i only wear reading
glasses, and my vision is quite good otherwise. i'm a healthy 56. the
ointment was difficult to wash off my hand and fingers each day i
applied it to the cat. i don't remember getting my eye contaminated.
help!

Answer:
Hey Consumerpaul, how are you doing?

OTC first-aid antimicrobials are for use only up to one week. If an injury persists or worsens
after this time, the label warns consumers to stop use and consult a doctor.

The products are not for existing infections, animal bites, sunburn, punctures, or eye injuries. Nor should they be used for cuts, scrapes or burns needing medical care, such as:

* cuts that are deep, continue bleeding, or may require stitches
* scrapes with imbedded particles that can't be flushed away
* large wounds
* burns more serious than a small reddened area.

Use of an antibiotic or antiseptic does not in itself constitute first-aid treatment of a
minor wound. For Veterinary medicine links, articles, chat, bulletin boards, for veterinary professionals, pet owners and animal lovers go to find comprehensive information on pet care, animal health, please visit

Hey Anonymous, how are you doing?

(tm) by
(sm) helps eliminate any skin rashes and irritations from your cat, dog or horse. Allergerx(tm) is a unique shampoo for all pet lovers who suffer from allergies.

Although saline solution is best, regular tap water is a perfectly acceptable alternative. The single most important thing to do for chemical exposures is to immediately wash out the eye with great amounts of water.

If you are not sure if the exposure is potentially serious, you have washed out your eye, and you have few symptoms, then your ophthalmologist may be able to help you decide whether or not you should be seen immediately. Even if your eye was irrigated at home, the ophthalmologist will probably have your eye irrigated again.

Prisoner: Look here, doctor! You've already removed my spleen, tonsils, adenoids, and one of my kidneys. I only came to see if you could get me out of this place!

Doctor: I am, bit by bit.
