VERSED
Question:
Hi
I just had surgery and I was wondering about the drug they give you called versed. It makes you forget what happens before surgery and I was wondering how it makes you act. Do you say silly things or are you sleeping? Do you become combative or are you a rag doll and they have to move you around? Can you move on your own. I was wondering because after I woke up from surgery my mouth and throat were all tore up by the inubation tube. I have never had that happen before. I thought maybe I was fighting them. Any input on the drug would be great thanks
Candace

Answer:

Versed simply relaxes you. The effects of it begin within 15 minutes. It does decrease your memory of the event that you are taking it for but it would not make you thrash around or become combative. Although you feel you are sleeping, you actually are responsive and can answer the doctor's questions during the entire procedure. You really don't say silly or strange things but it all depends upon your personality (similar to how you might be if you were to drink a good amount of alcohol). It wouldn't take much tube movement for your throat to suffer scratches. I'm sure you weren't fighting them or they would have given you an alternative med.
