Boxer stealing from the fridge.
Question:

my friend at work has a 6mth old boxer bitch who raids the fridge...they have put heavy items against the door....got a fridge lock and taped it with heavy duty tape and Ruby still gets in there ...she is left for 3 hrs in the morning when friend is at work
she has now resorted to emptying it out when no one home....

I would put her in a crate personally but my friend dosen't want to

any other idea's she could try
PS fridge is fitted so can't be moved

Answer:

close kitxhen door...get a lock on kitchen door?

Answer:

I am amazed she can get tape of... does she not do it when they go to bed?

One answer would be sound aversion, the means the owner hiding and watching them making a loud noise whenever the dog tries to get in the fridge...not easy..metal bolts in an empty can make a good noise...the dog must not see the owner or associate them with the noise.

How about a play pen rather than a crate...there are lots on the net, this one looks sturdy ...

this is cheaper..

Answer:

I would try and talk your friend into crate training her baby,if not how about leaving a big kong filled with food for her to chew on, it may take her mind off the fridge.

Sound aversion, as Mini says is another good way to stop her, but if she only does it when they are out, they need to set up something on the fridge, so when she opens the door, something (like a saucepan lid) falls onto the floor and makes a noise.

Answer:

Does she have the run of the home or is she in the kitchen as it's easy to clear up etc?

It's best to keep pups in the safest place, it's easy to use child gates to do this. A crate would be OK but must be introduced very slowly as anice place to be, and also the pup must not be in it for long.
